Facts About Baseballs By Maddox Prince There are 960,000 baseballs made each year. According to NBC s Ask Liz column, Major League Baseball teams use an average of 65 balls per game. There is a Costa Rican plant that makes about 2.2 million balls a year and sells about 1.8 million to the major leagues. Major League Baseball teams rub their baseballs in a special mud from the Delaware River in New Jersey. The mud gives the ball is off-white appearance and allows pitchers to have a better grip and more control over the ball. Each baseball is stitched by hand, 108 stitches taking about 10 minutes, using 88 inches of red cotton thread.
