24 the continues Legend has it that during the American Civil War, two men found themselves on opposite sides of the battlefield. Not long after the last cannon was fired, having lost family and faith, the two strangers independently turned their backs on their homelands and headed west to San Francisco. They crossed paths in a boarding house and, ironically, it was the destruction of the war itself that led to the two becoming firm friends. Having experienced devastation, destruction and exploitation, they knew that a strong value system was the foundation of success. These values were rooted in the spirit of true generosity that thrived with an innovative hunger for excellence. Their names were Clement Mugg and Joshua Fenomah Bean, and in 1868 they lifted their bourbon glasses and toasted to bringing Mugg & Bean General Merchants to life. In five short years, their business flourished and became a place where everyone was welcome. Their dreams and ambitions were passed on to their young sons, George and Edmund, who grew up as steadfast friends and never forgot their humble beginnings.
