1 Bremen Elementary-Middle School Parent Bulletin September 29, 2017 Mutual Respect Caring School Community Great Expectations THE BOOK FAIR IS COMING TO OUR SCHOOL! October 2nd-7th during school hours Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. Of all the skills children learn, reading is the one you can influence the most. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose books will motivate them to read more. And like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they ll get! assetuploads/130398_parent_ commercial.mp4.mp4 FAMILY NIGHT Tuesday, October 3 3:15pm 8:00pm PICTURE RETAKES OCTOBER 18TH School picture retakes have been scheduled for Wednesday, October 18th. Students wanting retakes should notify Mrs. Andrews in the office as soon as possible. Students must bring the entire picture package back with them on retake day. IMPORTANT INFORMATION VIRTUAL SNOW DAY-SEPTEMBER 29TH September 29, 2017 students will not be in attendance at school, however, the virtual snow day will be a school day spent outside of school, where students will complete work that would otherwise have been done at school on Sept. 29th. Assignments will be made available to students by Wednesday, September 27th. The goal is that all assignments be returned to school on Monday, October 2nd. If more time is needed to complete assignments, the students have until October 4th to complete them. These assignments must be turned in by October 4th for students to be counted in attendance on Sept. 29th. Teachers will be available to students during scheduled times on the virtual snow day through , telephone, or other means. School staff will be at school and will be participating in professional growth activities while monitoring their students progress and being responsive to their needs. If you have any questions, please contact the school at (574) TITLE I PARENT MEETING There will be a Title I parent meeting on October 23, from 5:30-6:30 pm. This will be an informational meeting for students who are receiving Title 1 services. You will receive a letter in the mail if your child is receiving Title 1 services. Please send the RSVP form back to the office if you plan on attending.

KIWANIS HALLOWEEN PARTY Children (from birth to fifth grade) are invited to wear their favorite Halloween costumes to the annual Kiwanis Halloween Party and costume Contest on Tuesday, October 24, at the Bremen Elementary- Middle School. Carnival-style games begin at 6:30 p.m. in the gym, followed by a costume contest at 6:45, also in the gym. Refreshments will be available across the hall in the K-8 cafeteria. Bremen Elementary-Middle School, in conjunction with the REC Foundation, invites all girls K-12 to our girl Powered event on October 11, 2017, which coincides with the International Day of the Girl. The REC Foundation launched Girl Powered, in collaboration with VEX Robotics, Inc., to double the number of girls on robotics teams over the next 5 years. To achieve this ambitious goal we have partnered to offer events around the country to engage more girls in STEM and robotics. Join us to learn more about participating in robotics programs in our community. Get ready for a fun new year in the 4-H program! Walkers and runners of all age groups welcome! Bring the whole family to get splashed with color as you participate! Entry Fees: Individual Pre-Registration Adult: $15 and Youth $10 by September 15th Individual Regular Registration Adult $20 and Youth $15 after September 15th Mini Dash All Mini Dash participants are free (must be 7 and under) Register by Sep. 15th to receive a t-shirt! First 50 registrants receive free sunglasses! You do not have to be in 4-H to participate! Everyone is welcome! Prizes: There will be 4 groups for awards - 19 & over Male, 19 & over Female, 18 & under Male, 18 & under Female. Plus a team award, bring the largest group and you could win the team division! Minimum commitment of eight hours required per three-month session: Fall (September-November) Winter (December-February) Spring (March-May) Summer (June-August) Open to students in Grades 5-12 Duties will vary, but could include helping with programs, preparing crafts, writing book and movie reviews, tutoring, dusting shelves, straightening books, and more.
