1 Tŷ Hyll Tearoom at The Ugly House Croeso i Tŷ Hyll Welcome to The Ugly House Tŷ Hyll (The Ugly House) is shrouded in myth and legend. The fireplace indicates it was built in 1475, but it doesn t appear on records until several centuries after that. It could have originally been built as a highwayman s hideout, as it would have been deep in the forest away from the road (then on the opposite side of the river). Some say Tŷ Hyll is a Tŷ Un Nos a building relating to an old Welsh law, which states that if a dwelling can be erected and have smoke coming from its chimney within a 24 hour period, then the builder has a right to live there and work the surrounding land within an axe throw of the building.
