State Fair of Texas Join us Thursday, October 12th at the State Fair of Texas! The State Fair of Texas is a 24 day showcase of entertainment, exhibits and competition. It is presented in Dallas each fall at historic Fair Park, a 277 acre complex recognized for its beautiful landscaping and unique collection of art deco architecture. Come with us and enjoy all that the State Fair of Texas has to offer. We will be taking the train to the fair, so we will meet at Medpark station located at 3220 Medpark Drive in Denton. We will meet at 8:30 am and the train leaves at 8:48 am so don't be late! We will get back on the train to return home from Fair Park at 4:18 pm, but feel free to catch an earlier train at your leisure. Lunch is not included in the cost. Trip Size: 6 min-19 max. Cost: $7. Please register by October 5 th. November 17, 2017 Chi Omega Christmas Market Join us on Friday, November 17 th at the Chi Omega Christmas Market. We will enjoy a unique, one-of-a-kind shopping experience with over 175 merchants showcasing gifts for every age including holiday décor, women s clothing and accessories, home accents, children s clothing and toys, food, gifts, and much more! In its 36 year history, Chi Omega Christmas Market has distributed more than 6 million dollars to the Dallas community through grants to local charities and collegiate scholarships. Let s help support this great cause. We will leave City Hall at 9:00 am and return by 4:00 pm. Lunch is not included in the cost. Bring money for shopping and lunch! Trip Size: 6 min 19 max. Cost: $24. Please register by November 10 th. December 8, 2017 UNT Sounds of the Holiday Concert It s a night out on the town! Join us on Friday, December 8 th for a night full of your favorite holiday sounds. We will head to the Murchison Performing Arts Center on the UNT campus to hear the popular Sounds of the Holidays featuring choral works, audience sign-along carols and classic holidays favorites performed by students vocalists, with additional works from the organ and brass ensemble. We will leave City Hall at 4:30 pm and enjoy dinner together. Dinner is not included in cost. The concert is at 7:00 pm so we should be done by 9:00 pm. Trip Size: 6 min 19 max. Cost $11. 4 CORINTH SENIOR TRAILBLAZERS NEWSLETTER Honeybee SAFETY Staying Health in the Autumn Tips: Home/Kitchen Hacks: Take advantage of the warm and cool weather and do some outside activities like working out, running, walking, hiking, and bike riding. Wash your Hands Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. It s best to wash your hands with soap and clean running water for 20 seconds. If that s not possible, use alcohol-based hand rubs. Make sure you fireplace is ready to go during autumn. Prevent slippage with a wet paper towel under the cutting board. Take steps to prevent the Flu Get the Flu shot. Take a picture of your fridge and pantry before going to the supermarket so you never forget what you need. Get rid of your rugs, they are a huge trip hazard or secure them with double sided tape. Use rubber gloves to loosen up tight jars. Use some Fall décor around your home to have a warm feel around the house. Place a wooden spoon across your pot to keep it from boiling over. Things to do during the Fall: Attend a local pumpkin patch and fall festival. Participate in the neighborhood Trick or Treat. Work on a fall-themed jigsaw puzzle. Attend one the City of Corinth Senior trips. Attend Pumpkin Palooza (see flyer pg3) Holiday Fire Safety Tips: Choose decorations that are flame resistant or flame retardant. Keep lit candles away from decorations and other things that can burn. Keep decorations away from windows and doors.

5 Nectar N I B B L E S E A S Y R E C I P E S F O R S E N I O R N U T R I T I O N Cheddar Bay Biscuits Ingredients: 2 cups bisquick 2/3 cup milk ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese 6 tablespoons butter ½ teaspoon garlic powder ¼ teaspoon old bay seasoning Grilled Chicken and Strawberry Cobb Salad Ingredients: ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil 2 tsp lime zest 3 tbsp. lime juice 1 ½ Honey Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 head Romaine lettuce, torn 2 chicken breast, grilled and sliced 2 cups sliced strawberries 4 oz. crumbled feta 1 cup cooked peas 1 avocado, sliced ½ cup sliced red onion Single-Serving Carmel Apples Ingredients: 17.3oz. package frozen puffy pastry sheets (2 sheets), thawed butter 4 medium Granny Smith, Jonagold, and/or Fuji apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar 3 tablespoons butter, cut up ½ cup caramel-flavored ice cream topping 1 egg yolk, lightly beaten 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Whipped cream Preparation: Heat oven to 450. Combine bisquick with 4 tablespoons butter using a pastry cutter or a large fork. Add milk, and cheddar cheese and stir together. Spoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes In a small sauce pan combine 2 tablespoons butter, garlic powder and old bay seasoning. Heat until butter is melted. Spoon butter mixture over hot biscuits. Preparation: Whisk together olive oil, lime zest, lime juice, and honey. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. Place lettuce in a large bowl and top with chicken, strawberries, feta, peas, avocado, and red onion. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle with dressing. Toss and serve immediately. Preparation: Unfold pastry sheets onto a lightly floured surface. Arrange eight 4- to 5-inch individual quiche dishes, pie plates, or individual shallow casserole dishes atop pastry sheets, top sides down. (If the pastry sheets are not large enough for all the dishes to fit, roll out the pastry sheets until they are large enough.) Using a small knife, cut out pastry around the dishes. Discard excess pastry. Set pastry aside. Butter insides of dishes; set aside. In a large bowl toss together apple slices and brown sugar. Arrange apple slices in buttered dishes. Dot with the 3 tablespoons butter. Drizzle apples with ice cream topping. Place a cut out pastry piece atop each dish. Press pastry against the top insides of the dishes. Brush pastry with egg yolk; sprinkle with granulated sugar. Place dishes on a very large baking sheet. Bake in a 400 degree F oven about 20 minutes or until pastry is golden brown and apples are just tender. Cool slightly. Serve warm with whipped cream. Makes 8 servings.
