Take Care Mae GETTING TO KNOW YOU by Doris Hoover The year 1923 was a good year. The Roaring Twenties were in full swing, Walt Disney Company was founded, Calvin Coolidge was President, the Delaware chicken industry was founded, Carlton Heston, film actor, was born, and also; Janet Street Parks was born on October 14,1923, in a farmhouse between Felton and Frederica, DE to Agnes and Robert Street. Her father, a Philadelphia contractor, and mother took leave of Delaware and moved to Philadelphia to continue his employment. Janet s grandparents raised her. She attended a two-room school house through the first eight grades and continuing in the Milford Schools. After graduation, Janet attended Delaware State with Home Education for her major. Employment at the Dover Air Force Base, the DE Head Start Program, and then retiring Tanner from Philip the Harris Modern Maturity Center in Dover are part of her early life. She was married having three children and now lives comfortably in the country across from Andrews Lake. Her son Thomas resides with her. Janet keeps up with the news listening to CNN on TV. Favorites are the Jimmy Swagger Singers and the hymn Lilly of the Field. The color blue, enjoying a delicious meal at Rudy s in Harrington, and a turkey dinner are other much loved favorites. She has traveled extensively and visited Spain, Italy, and Germany. But England was the favorite. She is member of a local Red Hat group and reins as their Queen Mom. Janet was a strong supporter of the Frederica Adult Center founded in She personally contacted the DE Division of Aging for information and coaching in how to start a center for adults; and in a short time, four determined individuals conducted their first meeting in the Webb House (now gone). They did a lot of work and had more to do but their ambition was accomplished. Twenty-nine years later, the year 2003, the name was changed from Frederica Adult Center to Frederica Senior Center (FSC). She is a loyal member of FSC and so honored with a picture and plaque hanging in the Hall of Honor. She enjoys singing with the Johnnie Cake Singers. Her advise to others is To live a clean sensible life. This lovely lady is a delight to know. Please extend best wishes, glad to know you, and/or hellos to our Lady of the Month, Ms Janet Parks.
