1 Holy Cross Newsletter F E B R U A R Y 2 Principal Message We have only just started the month of February and it has been packed full of events and this will continue! Ski Club has been going strong and the kids are having a ball. Jump Rope for Heart Kick off and our Jump Rope day is February 17. We have begun collecting forms for our Carnival/Ski day on February 24. It is important to me that as many kids attend as possible. It is a chance as a school family to enjoy our winter weather. There is still a school day for students who choose not to attend the Carnival/Ski day. Students who stay behind will work on any missed assignments that they have not completed. Additional work will be provided if needed. Pink Shirt day is February 22nd. It is a campaign against Bullying. We as a school are going to highlight the behavior we want to see and that is Kindness. Some of our children ordered Pink T-shirts from the school but any pink T-shirt will do for that day. We will be highlighting the positive behaviors in the months to come. Just a friendly reminder to parents of children in grade four and seven to complete the Accountability Survey. It is important that we hear from you; both what we are doing well and what needs improvement. Your input helps us to plan for next year. This month as well, we begin Lent with Ash Wednesday on Mar. 1. PACE will be in our school on and off February 21-March 24. They will be talking to our students from K-8 about Sexual Assault. Students need parent permission to attend. Your homeroom teacher will send a note home asking permission for your child to participate. Yours in Christ, Lee Boylan

5 FEBRUARY FAITH REFLECTION Stroll into a store at this time of year and you will see red! The shades of red, pink and purple that mark the day dedicated to love; Valentine s Day. Each year on this February 14th, millions of people go out of their way to express their love for the people in their lives. From gifts to heartfelt words, the showering of love is everywhere and it is a marvelous thing. February 14th is an important day, a day dedicated to love, but it is also important to think beyond the 14th and ask ourselves the question of how we plan to show love on February 15th? As Christians we know that showing love is not reserved for one day. We read in John that Jesus told us to love one another. This is God s mission for us, to love others as He loves us. The quote attributed to St. John Bosco says, It is not enough to Love, people have to feel that they are loved. So the ques-tion becomes how will we make people feel loved each day of the year? Not only those close to us, but all those we come into contact with. How will we make the cashier at the local grocery store feel loved? The people we work with? The person we pass each day who lives on the street? So, in preparation for Valentine s day, as you are picking out the card and buying the flowers, take time to reflect on how you will make others feel loved, not only on the 14th but beyond it, to the 15th and the many beautiful days that follow. For each day is a gift from God to go out and live His mission, spreading His message and His love with others. Laura Tapson
