8 Tesco ensures customer-only car parks with new touchscreens Tesco has introduced new technology to ensure only customers use its free parking. Starting as its Truro stores, Tesco installed 10 touchscreens in its car park. Cameras log the registration of every vehicle that enters. After a shop, customers are given a voucher. They enter their reg and scan the voucher to validate their parking. The terminals fine anyone who tales more than two hours or spends less than 3 in Tesco. Anyone who doesn t not scan a voucher will be written to by the DVLA and fined after a number of offences. Tesco squares up to CCE as it pulls Schweppes lines Tesco has fallen out with Coca-Cola Enterprises, pulling 25 soft drinks lines from its shelves mainly Schweppes mixers over price hikes. The Grocer has learnt that the dispute has arisen out of annual negotiations, with Tesco seemingly unwilling to meet Coke s request for higher prices. With supply suspended in stores and online, stocks started running out two weeks ago. Customers took to Twitter to ask Tesco and Coke what was going on. The Grocer, Magazine (2015)
9 Maxxium UK promotes Mark Riley to managing director Maxxium UK has promoted sales director Mark Riley to the role of Managing Director. Riley, who will take up the position on 1 April and replaces Huw Pennell, has been sales director for the spirits distribution company for three years, and before that was commercial operations director. He joined Maxxium in 2009 from Beam Suntory which, along with Scotch whisky business Edrington, holds shares in Maxxium. Prior to that he spent ten years with Diageo. Schweppes begins new ad campaign in midst of Tesco dispute Coca-Cola Enterprises has announced a new marketing push for Schweppes this comes after The Grocer revealed Tesco had pulled many of the brand s lines in a pricing dispute. The ad campaign will run from the end of April across on-demand TV, cinema, digital and outdoor media, with the witty youthful theme of separating men from boys, separating women from girls.
10 Aldi hits record market share as Tesco posts best growth in 18 months Aldi has hit a record market share of 5%, according to the latest grocery market share data from Kantar Worldpanel. Its market share grew to 5% in the 12 weeks to 1 March, versus 4.3% a year ago, Kantar said. It also chalked up sales growth of 19.3% Tesco, meanwhile, notched up its best performance in 18 months with sales growth of 1.1%, though its market share slipped from 28.8% a year ago to 28.7%. Morrisons reports worst profit results in eight years Supermarket chain Morrisons has reported its worst results in eight years, with pre-tax profits falling by more than half from a year earlier. The struggling firm reported a pre-tax profit of 345m, down 52%. It was the only one of the big four to post an increase in sales. Asda saw it sales fall 2.1% during the 12-week period, while Sainsbury s fell 0.5% and Morrisons by 0.4%. All three retailers also saw their market share decline to 17%, 16.8% and 11% respectively.
