Time-less, price-less and peer-less, these seven cocktails, which have been the inspiration to count-less other cocktails, were chosen to evoke memories of the first perfect cocktail to touch your lips. NEGRONI Pre-dinner cocktails were invented in Florence, Italy in 1919, at Caffe Casoni (ex Caffe Giacosa) now called Caffe Cavalli. Count Camillo Negroni invented it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favourite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water. Gin, Sweet Vermouth and Campari THE DAIQUIRI Is said to have been created at the turn of the twentieth century by American engineer Jennings Cox at the Daiquiri mines near Santiago, Cuba. At the time he utilised the new light dry Bacardi Rum and Balanced it perfectly with fresh lime juice and sugar. Gin, Cointreau, Angostura Bitters, Orange Bitters and Lime Juice THE OLD FASHIONED A phrase used in the 70s to denote a cocktail made out of American whiskey, sugar, bitters and ice, not shaken in a stainless steel tin but made in a more traditional manner using the glass itself. Maker's Mark Bourbon, Angostura Bitters, Orange Bitters and Sugar MAI TAI No drink epitomises the American Tiki Cocktail quite like Victor Bergeron's Mai Tai. It is a delicious mix of rum libation featuring gold rum, orange curacao, fresh lime and almond syrup. Traditionally made with Woodford Reserve and sweet vermouth, it can also be enjoyed with dry vermouth or with a dash of both.
