6 THE TEAPOT STORY Mankind's centuries-old pursuit of higher thought, tea and indeed the humble Teapot itself are counted among his oldest and fondest tools. The first Teapots were made during the 12th Century Ming Dynasty in China, becoming a convenient way to serve the leaf-infusion now known universally as tea - a timeless substance brewed to stimulate the senses, heal the sick, and generally vitalise the tastebuds. Scholars and monks would share stimulating tea in an effort to remain awake for days on end decoding religious texts; ancient generals would pour sacred teas for their soldiers before battle, sharpening their senses and igniting their inner Chi. In some cultures, the ceremony surrounding tea drinking is considered an artform itself, with the teapot acting as a holy icon, conduit and centrepiece of this life-affirming ritual. Something vaguely similar happens at Cassette - but we don't fill our Teapots with camomile or Earl Grey or some crap. We fill 'em with booze! More precisely, with colourful concoctions drawn from an ever-changing rainbow of delicious cocktails, unique recipes developed by the very bartenders who serve it to you. They're a fun feature we're pretty proud of and we like to think of them as the common theme that unites the wildly-varied Cassette experience, whether that be watching a band full of babes, dancing-like-no-one's-watching to an international DJ, chortling at a stand-up comic or chin-stroking at an art exhibition. All these things are that little bit better with a Teapot in hand. You may see pretenders serving drinks in a teapot every now and again around this town... but we did it first and we do believe we do it best. As Cassette is a place of social interaction, existing within a society, we do insist that you share your Teapot with a pal or two. And we do ask that you do not drink from the spout, in cooperation with local authorities. The shot glasses provided will aid you in this endeavour. Have a conversation while sipping a Fruit Tingle. Discuss the finer points of life over a Purple Rain. Learn a little something about your fellow man and the inherent nature of reality over a Ginger Ninja... do yourself a favour, share a Teapot.
