Guest Speaker: Dieter Dudy who will talk about organics and what new changes are happening at the farmers market. Thank you to Rick Howie who spoke at our last meeting about birds in our area, those that stay for the winter, what they eat and those who migrate south. Who knew the only bird which has a sense of smell is the Vulture. Christmas Pot luck party will be Sunday December 6 th at 6:00pm at Heritage House. If you want to come and have not signed up, Doreen Beer will pass around the signup sheets for you to put your name down and whatever dish you will be bringing, salad, vegetable or desert. So if you forgot what you wrote down check the list. There will be a gift exchange if you wish to participate, something under $10. Guests are welcome but must bring a dish as well. Marty Kowlowski will play the piano again for our sing along of Christmas carols. Bring your plates and cutlery. The Prime Rib pot luck will be Wed, Jan 27 th, at Heritage House at 6:00pm. I will be cooking one of the turkeys and making dressing and gravy, we need one more volunteer to cook the other turkey. Silent Auction items are being picked up by Rae Wilson, so you can count on buying some Christmas gifts at amazing discounts.

2 Thank you to our new member Brenda Blatchford who has volunteered to take over the coffee setup. Brenda has a horticulture degree from TRU, volunteers at Hospice where she does an amazing job, and at the Fog group. Thank you to Jiuliana D agnolo for doing the coffee at least 5 years and Jean Amendola for the last 3 years, and managing the goody volunteers. Jiuliana and Jean have also been setting up the table for the goodies and some chairs which is over and above the job description. Anyone doing coffee setup is not required to start setting up chairs and tables. Everyone is required to wash out their own coffee or tea cup with warm water and soap. It is unsanitary and unsafe to simply rinse it out with cold water and dry it. Mary Bianco will be bringing the leftover items from our plant sale to put on the door prize table, anything remaining will go to the Sally Ann. Your grocery receipts from Coopers will expire at the end of the year, so this is the last meeting when you can bring them in. Extra Food receipts do not expire. A Christmas tree is any well shaped evergreen 5 to 7 feet in height situated on public land, or in a remote area of private land that can be transferred from its habitat to the roof of an automobile in less than 10 minutes. Tired of Christmas pots, wreaths and swags, here are some unusual décor ideas.

3 Chicken wire balls wrapped with string lights I bought 2 packages of candy canes from Walmart and a round red box from the Sahali Dollar store. I t took me an hour or so to hot glue the canes to the box. Some started to fall off very soon. Not all the canes are exactly the same height, so they did not look as even as this picture. It would have been much faster to put a couple fat elastics around the box and insert the candy canes all around, then cover the elastics with a fat red ribbon. Put foliage and flowers into a vase and insert into container.

4 These were made for Halloween, but I thought they would be a fun project to do with grandchildren. Use water balloons, add small glowsticks (available at $ store next to Save on Foods) and/or glitter, hang to freeze then peel off the water balloons, place into stockings and hang. (Can also use food coloring). Should be done in winter of course because it is easier to freeze them hanging from a tree, than to try and make round balls in a freezer. Make ice balloons using food coloring, peel off rubber when frozen

5 Pour ice into a square container, with berries and foliage, put a paper cup or tin can inside weighted down with pebbles, freeze, dump out pebbles add warm water to thaw cup to remove it, put candle or tea light inside. I have not tried this yet.

6 Make snowballs in a circle keep adding smaller rows on top till it is a pile put small battery tea lights inside. You may attach them to a string to pull them out to shut off or replace. Could also be done with white plastic or Styrofoam balls sprayed with artificial snow. See you at the meeting Judy Villeneuve
