This 'brain child' of past member Cliff Kopp gives us the opportunity to raise funds for our local community needs. 2 The Coffee Corner 2 The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; Parade of Nations (Ironman) THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian s personal, business, and community life; FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business professional persons united in the ideal of service. Of the things we think, say or do Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

3 3 The Presidential Brew Barry Rassin Rotary International President Win Schoneman District Governor Alan Clark Assistant Governor - West Hawaii Nestorio Domingo Club President I'm just a regular person who believes life is simple, and I like a simple life. -Manny Pacquiao, Rotary Club of Manila, Philippines Last week and the week ahead are very busy weeks for our club. First, we participated in the Ironman Parade of Nations last Tuesday. It was a rainy afternoon but I think it was worth getting wet for the excitement of seeing all those lean and very lively Triathletes and their families from almost every country in the world. Thanks to all who participated. Our club will receive $300 for serving as parade marshals and other tasking. Second is the support we provide on Saturday at the Ironman aid stations with members of the Kealakehe High School Interact Club. This is where we see or meet up close most of the tri-athletes in their bicycles or on foot running the marathon part of the competition. Participants receive T-shirts, and as an added incentive, also receive tickets to the Mahalo Party on Monday following the Triathlon. Third is our regular meeting on Wednesday to be held at the Old Airport Park Events Pavilion 1, which is the venue for our Pig N Swig Fundraiser. Our cochairs, Dennis Rast and Jane DeMello have been hard at work planning and coordinating everything. Sue Rast has also been keeping busy with the silent auction part. We cannot thank Sue enough for her dedication and hard work doing this important part of the fundraiser. And finally, on Saturday, October 20 will be the Superbowl equivalent of our Pig N Swig fundraiser. We are not known as the little club that can if we can t do it. We will do it and together, we will be successful. Thank you all for your hard work. You continue to Be The Inspiration for our community, our families and all those that we serve. -Nestor Domingo

5 ON THE COFFEE TABLE Pig N Swig Update SEE PAGE 1 Doors open at 5 PM. There will be at least 400 plates of pupus available for sampling on a first come first serve basis from our competing chefs representing Splashers and Cool Runnings (last years "Golden Pig" co-winners), Privateers Cove and Kona Butcher Shop. Johnny Shot will be our outstanding music program through out the evening. Complimenting the evening will be ono grindz from Big Island Grill and plenty of excitement from our Silent Auction followed by a Live Auction that includes a round trip airfare for 2 and a 3 day stay in Waikiki at the Wyndham at Waikiki Beach Walk. Mahalo to our members and volunteers who have stepped up to make this event possible. Our reward will be the ability to support our local youth with scholarships and leadership camp experience and provide assistance to those in need within our community. In Memory: It seems like yesterday, but it is now 2 years since Cliff left this world. He truly Walk the Talk giving voice to those who do not have a voice. The Dr. did a lot of wonderful things for folks who could not do for themselves. Many were abused women and veterans. But, it was really the women and children that he took to heart. Cliff will be forever remembered for the many walks around Hawaii island raising awareness of the estimated 1,800 unsheltered homeless that continue to be ignored, and in many cases unidentified and uncounted. Many of Cliff s closest friends and colleagues continue to miss him. Forever in our hearts. We miss you! -Barbara Kossow 5
