7 FALCON PICTO anglais USA.qxp 25/02/08 18:35 Page 6 WELCOME Congratulations and thank you for purchasing this Krups Espresseria Automatic espresso machine. We are confident you will enjoy the versatility of this machine as well as the convenience. Should you have any questions, please contact one of our specially trained consumer service managers. They are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm (EST) at for the US, and Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (EST) at for Canada. ENGLISH We strongly recommend that you register this product as quickly as possible to ensure that the warranty program is validated. Please complete your respective countries enclosed registration card or for the USA register online at Enclosed in this box is the Krups VIP Exclusive Service Kit. Within this kit, we have included everything you need to get started. Each kit contains 1 packet of descaling powder, 2 cleaning tablets, water hardness testing strip, a full color instruction manual, and 1 Claris water filter. USING OILY BEANS There are a variety of coffee and espresso beans available in the market today. Some beans have a very dry roast while others can be quite oily. Oily beans may clump together, which could disrupt the flow of coffee into the grinder. The lack of a continuous flow of beans into the grinder can cause a weak or even no coffee at all. To ensure optimal results when using oily beans, simply stir the beans in the coffee hopper just prior to using your machine. If you freeze your beans (we do not recommend this type of storage, but rather keeping your beans in an airtight container in a cool dark place), please ensure you allow at least 4 hours for them to thaw before adding to the coffee bean hopper. Allowing frozen beans to properly thaw will prevent unnecessary moisture from entering into the grinder. Also, never use flavoured or other sugar-coated beans as they will stick to the burrs and clog your machine. RECIPES FRANÇAIS Cappuccino For a cappuccino, the ideal proportions are as follows: 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 espresso, 1/3 milk froth. Caffe Latte To make coffee with milk, also often called Latte Macchiato, the proportions are as follows: 3/5 steamed milk, 1/5 espresso, 1/5 milk froth. For these milk-based preparations, it is best to use cold 1 or 2% milk milk straight from the refrigerator (ideally between 42.8 F/6 C and 46.4 F/10 C). ESPAÑOL LIMITS TO USE This Espresseria Automatic machine must only be used to prepare espresso, coffee, and froth milk. This product has been designed for household use only. Any commercial or professional use, inappropriate use or failure to comply with the instructions will void the warranty. 6

Espresso Strong espresso Coffee Long coffee Amount of water ml/ oz ml/ oz ml/ oz ml/ oz ENGLISH YOUR MACHINE IS DESIGNED TO MAKE COFFEE AND ESPRESSO FROM COFFEE BEANS ONLY. DO NOT USE OILY OR SUGAR COATED ESPRESSO / COFFEE BEANS. When you first make coffee with the machine, or after a prolonged period of non-use, or a cleaning or descaling procedure, a little steam and hot water will come out of the steam nozzle (priming). Splashing or scalding may occur if the coffee outlets are set too high in relation to the size of the cups. When the machine is plugged in, an inintializing cycle is processed. Press the On/Off button. The light will flash while the machine heats up. When the light goes solid, your machine is ready. When your machine is ready, the On/Off light will stay on. Put a cup under the coffee outlets. You can lower or raise the coffee outlets to suit the size of your cups. Select the key to get a standard espresso or the key to get a long espresso. FRANÇAIS Please note : The ground coffee is first moistened with a little hot water after the grinding stage. This is called pre-brewing and it optimizes the brewing process by ensuring that the grounds are evenly wet. A few moments later, the full brewing cycle begins. To get a stronger long coffee, we recommend to divide by 2 the volume you wish and make run 2 cycles, e.g. 2 times 70 ml/2.4 oz to get a 140 ml/4 oz coffee. DO NOT TAKE OFF THE WATER TANK BEFORE THE END OF THE CYCLE (i.e. 15 sec. after coffee stops flowing). TWO CUP FUNCTION You can use your machine to make 2 cups of coffee or espresso by cycling the machine twice. Remember not to remove the cups after the first cycle. You have now prepared your machine. There is water or coffee under the machine. The 4 red lights flash permanently. TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE Check that the power supply cord plug is correctly inserted in the socket. In case of repeated runnings, some drops may flown out from the steam nozzle. Change the coffee temperature setting. Pre-heat the cups by rinsing them in hot water or under the steam nozzle. Check that the coffee bean container contains sufficient coffee and that beans fall correctly into the grinder. Do not use oily or sugar coated or flavoured coffee / espresso beans. Reduce the volume of coffee selected using the knob. Select the strong coffee button. Turn the grinding fineness knob to the left to obtain a finer grind. Prepare your beverage deviding it in 2 cycles by choosing the 2 cup function. Turn the grinding fineness knob to the right to obtain a coarser grind (may depend on the type of coffee used). Make one or several rinsing cycles. Adjust the grinding fineness knob to the left to obtain a finer grind (may depend on the type of coffee used). Change the Claris Filter (follow instructions page 7) Make one or several rinsing clycles. An incident has been detected by the machine during the cycle. The machine automatically runs an initialization cycle and is ready for a new cycle. Use your vacuum cleaner to remove the ground coffee in the coffee bean container. There may be foreign bodies in the grinder or not enough beans. Check that the container is full and free of foreign bodies. Contact your Krups Service Center. Change the grinder setting only when in operation. First turn off your machine and let it cool down: - Clean out and unclog the outlet holes with the needle included (see page 11). - Clean out and unclog the hole of the steam nozzle support pipe with the needle included. Check that the steam is able to come out of the nozzle and unclog the little air outlet of the steam nozzle if needed. Use fresh cold milk. Change the type (1 or 2% milk) or brand of milk as appropriate. Check that the two ends of the small stainless steel tube fit correctly into the flexible part of the steam nozzle. Check that the tube immersed in the milk is not blocked. Check that the flexible tube is correctly fitted with the accessory to avoid any air leakage. First turn off your machine and let it cool before clearing the Auto-Cappuccino accessory outlet hole. Those programs are available only when the machine requests them ("clean" or "calc" light on). Check for correct positioning of the tank in the machine. Check that the float at the bottom of the tank moves freely. Rinse the accessory and if necessary remove scale. Remove the collector, make certain that it is empty, wait for 8 seconds and then fit it again. Check that the cleaning tray is correctly pushed in. The machine will re-initialise automatically when power is turned on and be ready for a new cycle. The drip tray is overflowing. Empty it and clean it. Check for correct positioning of the drip tray. Disconnect the machine, remove the Claris Filter, wait for 20 seconds and then bring it back into service. If the failure persists, note the number that appears in the display under the servicing flap and contact the Krups helpline. 16 CORRECTIVE ACTIONS ENGLISH FRANÇAIS ESPAÑOL
