SERVING OUR COMMUNITY Giving Efforts

There s a good chance you re reading this text because you care. That s something we have in common because caring is a big part of Community Coffee Company s philosophy. We care about making great coffee, but what s also important to us is looking after the people and the places that have been with us every step of the way. Together, we ve created a culture of generosity and mutual respect that has lasted almost a century. Welcome to our story of serving our local communities. mat t saurage / 4 t h gener at ion owner

COMMUNITY MEANS THE WORLD TO US. Great coffee isn t the only reason Community Coffee has been so successful for so long. We ve also had the support of our friends and neighbors. These are the people who originally inspired our giving programs and continue to do so today. What you re about to read are stories of the people most affected by our programs. We want to show the positive impact we can all have on people s lives because at the end of the day, we all want a thriving community. 2

OUR PURPOSE We passionately source, roast and deliver the best-tasting coffee. But we don t just want to make better coffee. We want to be a better coffee company. We want to repay the generosity, hard work, creativity and hospitality of the people who ve become part of our family. They have graciously welcomed us into their communities and allowed us to become their neighbors, coworkers and friends. OUR VALUES When Cap Saurage founded Community Coffee, he didn t establish a set of company values. He simply conducted his business in the same way he conducted the rest of his life - with passion, integrity, pride, respect and generosity. These values have been cherished by the Saurage family for generations, and they will continue to be the driving force behind everything we do. Our People We are a high performance company with an emphasis on teamwork and employee care. Our Integrity We have the courage to always do what is right. Our Customers We have a personal commitment to provide exceptional products, services and solutions. Our Safety We champion safe behaviors for ourselves, our employees and our community. Our Brand Everything we do has to be as good as our coffee. 3

OUR BEGINNINGS In 1919, the Saurage family opened a general store in their hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. From the start, Norman Cap Saurage developed a reputation for being passionate about the quality of his goods, but he was even more passionate about the quality of his coffee. Cap had discovered his secret recipe was good enough to sell. He named his retail coffee brand Community in honor of his friends and customers and delivered it by horse drawn cart in brown paper bags with the name stenciled on the side. It was a local hit. Over the next two decades, demand for Community coffee grew beyond Baton Rouge. To preserve the quality of their coffee, the Saurage family opened their own proprietary roasting operation in Now, four generations on, Community coffee has grown from a local favorite into the largest family-owned coffee brand in the United States. Our friends, family, customers and partners have brought us this far, and we re excited to see where they will take us next. OUR IMPACT We re very proud of where we re from. But, despite our humble beginnings, our family has since expanded to places halfway across the globe. Here you ll see a breakdown of just how far the reach of Community Coffee goes:. Regionally. Baton Rouge was the town that created us and, almost a century later, we re still here. Since 1919, the home office of Community Coffee has been based in this area, and our plant is located across the river from Baton Rouge, in Port Allen, Louisiana. Community Coffee is committed to supporting the local communities, and we dedicate approximately 2.5% of our pretax income to socially-responsible charitable programs. Since we hold the Gulf Coast close to our hearts, we give to regional environmental efforts like America s WETLAND Foundation, and last year we supported the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana through our Crescent City Blend coffee. When natural disasters occur, we support disaster relief by providing free coffee to shelters, first responders and those affected. 4

Our local outreach extends to education as well: Our Community Cash for Schools program allows students in Louisiana to earn funds for their school by collecting proof of purchase labels from Community coffee products. Our employees share their career experience by mentoring local students through Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge and Acadiana. We also support New Schools for Baton Rouge, whose goal is to transform local schools by increasing students proficiency in reading and math.. Nationally. As our coffee sales have expanded outside of the Southeastern United States, so has our giving: Community Coffee created the Military Match program to support troops by doubling online orders sent to active-duty military. Our military support extends to the USO of North Carolina and its programs. Additionally, we provide free coffee to over 350,000 military members and their families that pass through the ten USO centers each year. Community Coffee also provides opportunities to new teachers and students in academically challenged regions in the form of grants to Teach for America.. Globally. The rich, smooth taste of our coffee has its origins in Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, where we conduct a variety of social support programs. Our recent partnership with Southwest Airlines has expanded our global support in Mexico, where we partnered to create satellite schools for children of coffee growers and to provide opportunities for the growers themselves to expand their skills and training. In the wake of the 1994 Rwandan civil war, Community Coffee decided to cross the Atlantic Ocean and set up partnerships in the war-torn African nation, offering a much-needed boost to the local economy. We continue to purchase Rwandan coffee to this day. As part of our commitment to global responsiblity, we are a gold sponsor of World Coffee Research, an organization that ensures high-quality coffee and environmental health for future generations. 5

s e r v i n g o u r c h i l d r e n The Community Cash for Schools program allows educational institutions to raise money by collecting proof of purchase labels from our products. The program encourages teamwork between parents and children and fosters relationships between schools and local businesses, since students can collect higher value proof of purchase labels from business-tobusiness products. Each school chooses where to apply the funds they earn towards tangible resources such as computers, textbooks and equipment, or towards initiatives and programs. The program serves public and private schools from pre-k through 12th grade. 13 JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT of Greater Baton Rouge and Acadiana Our partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Baton Rouge and Acadiana is a natural fit. It gives our employees the chance to mentor and inspire high school students to achieve their full potential in life. It also gives high school students the chance to see that there are incredible career opportunities awaiting them in their own backyard. 50 HOURS AVERAGE TIME OUR EMPLOYEES MENTOR STUDENTS PER SEMESTER Topics of Study WORK READINESS FINANCIAL LITERACY ENTREPRENEURSHIP 10

NEW SCHOOLS for Baton Rouge New Schools for Baton Rouge is an ambitious program that aims to transform local schools until every child in the city has access to an excellent education. As a partner, Community Coffee has seen incredible strides made in just a few short years. GRANT DURATION: TEACH FOR AMERICA This program enables emerging teachers to become lifelong educators while benefitting students in low income areas. Recent college graduates learn to lead and so do the students who learn from their bright examples. GRANT DURATION:

s e r v i n g o u r h e r o e s Of the approximately 2.2 million men and women who serve in the United States military, nearly 400,000 are stationed abroad, far from their homes and their families. We think that s a good reason to send a care package their way. We want to remind each and every service member that they are missed, they are loved and they are respected. When customers order four bags or four boxes of Community coffee from our Military Match program, we automatically double the order to any overseas (APO or FPO) or stateside military base address. Some orders even include personal, hand-written notes from Community Coffee team members expressing thanks and appreciation for all that they do. A year ago, the USO of North Carolina began a partnership with Community Coffee that not only provides them with coffee for each of their ten centers, it also provides funding for their key programs. In October of 2016, Community Coffee was the main sponsor of their annual Salute to Freedom gala event, which aims to honor outstanding servicemen and servicewomen from each branch of the military. 22 TOLEDO & LABATECA Can coffee create peace? In the case of the two Colombian farming towns of Toledo and Labateca, the answer is yes. Historically at odds, the towns entered into a fair price purchasing agreement with Community Coffee fifteen years ago that not only eased tensions but resulted in an economic turnaround for both. For every bag of whole bean and ground Private Reserve Colombia Toledo-Labateca coffee purchased, we contribute a percentage of sales towards building new educational and medical infrastructure, creating work programs for local farmers and their families and upgrading existing technology. 23 DISASTER RELIEF Thanks to our network of resources, Community Coffee is uniquely positioned to provide a rapid response to natural disasters. Community Coffee provides free coffee to shelters for evacuees and first responders and has provided funds to affected areas. 1,600,000 CUPS OF COMMUNITY COFFEE were donated after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Gustav, and after tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma. DURING THE HISTORIC FLOODING OF SOUTHEASTERN LOUISIANA in August 2016, Community Coffee provided over 300,000 cups of free coffee to evacuees and first responders. In addition, 10% of sales from specific Community coffee products totaling $ 100,000 was donated to the Salvation Army Gulf Flood Relief fund. 20

MEXICO The farmers work hard to grow and harvest the best coffee beans for Community. In return, we provide educational resources to serve the isolated coffee farming communities, specifically in the villages of Buenavista and Tierra y Libertad in Chiapas, Mexico. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SOUTHWEST AIRLINES, WE PROVIDE SATELLITE LEARNING TO INSTRUCT STUDENTS AND A LEARNING CENTER FOR AGRICULTURAL, SAFETY AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS SKILLS. RWANDA In the aftermath of the civil war of 1994, the nation of Rwanda was in dire straits. As the first U.S. coffee company to import Rwanda s coffee beans after the war, Community Coffee agreed to pay above-market prices in order to provide financial aid to the war-torn nation. Our support continues to this day through our partnership with the Maraba Coffee Cooperative. ONE-THIRD OF FUNDS ARE USED FOR MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL PROGRAMS. 23

WHERE WE RE GOING Plans Join Us

thoughts for the future At Community Coffee, we are excited to see what the years ahead will bring us. As our business grows and evolves, so will our efforts to provide support for education, the brave military personnel who serve this great nation and the environment. We will continue to approach our values of generosity and compassion with the same passion that we approach making coffee. join us As our brand name implies, our journey is not one we ve taken alone. We have achieved incredible progress in caring for our community, at home and abroad, but we could not have done it without our network of family, friends, partners and customers. We are only as strong as our sense of togetherness, and that is why we re inviting you to help us Make it Community. thank you We appreciate your interest in Community Coffee. As a company with global reach, Community Coffee is uniquely poised to make a difference, and we owe a large part of that to you. An individual alone is certainly capable of great things, but it is people working together that can make the world a better place. Everything we do has to be as good as our coffee. H.
