Ecolabels Product accreditations are often called ecolabels and are awarded to individual products via an impartial third party and audited against standards and are usually awarded in the country of manufacture. Green Seal Check the product specification sheets to ensure you are getting the most environmentally responsible product. EcoLogo FSC (Forest Stewardship Council ) FSC certification is recognised throughout the world as having the most rigorous environmental and social standards for responsible forest management. FSC chain of custody is independently certified and assessed every step of the process from forestry, harvesting and pulping to paper and tissue production. PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) PEFC assures the buyer of wood and paper products that they are supporting the sustainable management of forests. PEFC is an umbrella organisation who recognises a country s individual forest certification scheme. Blue Angel (Blaue Engel) Originating in Germany, Blue Angel is the oldest ecolabel in the world covering 10,000 products in 80 product categories. Blue Angel independently certifies products with 100% post consumer recycled content, ensuring low waste content is used. Nordic Ecolabel (Nordic Swan) The Nordic Ecolabel originated in Scandinavia and is the official ecolabel of the Nordic countries. It focuses on the reduction of emissions, raw material usage and energy consumption. Green Seal is a North American ecolabel promoting sustainable economy. It addresses the primary life cycle issues for paper products including product performance, raw materials, manufacturing, packaging and use. The North American EcoLogo Program is designed to support a continuing effort to improve and/or maintain environmental quality by reducing energy and materials consumption and by minimising the impacts of pollution generated by the production, use and disposal of goods and services. Environmental Choice New Zealand (ECNZ) A New Zealand government initiative which operates to international specifications requiring a reduction of environmental impacts over the product life cycle. EU Ecolabel (EU label) Products with the EU Ecolabel have a lower environmental impact on air, water, soil and human health throughout its life cycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life. It guarantees technical performance and often presents the added value advantage of lower than average costs. ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation) ISO14001 a globally proven model for the implementation of an effective environmental management system set by the International Organisation for Standards (ISO).
