2 Station 3 Breaking Down Two Ways Materials: sugar cubes, 2 jars with lids. Fine sand paper, course sandpaper 1. Line one of the jars with a strip of coarse sandpaper. Label the jar coarse. 2. Line the other jar with a strip of fine sandpaper. Label the jar fine. 3. Put a sugar cube in each jar. Gently swirl the jars for one minute. 4. After one minute, open the jars and compare the sugar cubes. Record your observations. 5. Clean up put the sugar cubes in the container provided. Dust off the counter. Make sure the lab space is as clean as possible. Materials: sugar cubes, petri dish, eye dropper, water Station 4 Breaking Down With Water 2. Put 1 sugar cube on the petri dish. Drop 15 drops of water directly on the cube. Observe and record your observations. Include a drawing. 3. Repeat with another 15 drops of water. Observe and record your observations. Dust off the counter. Make Station 6 Chalk It Up Materials: salt, colored chalk, paper plate, metric ruler, plastic spoon 1. Use the ruler to measure the length of the colored chalk. Record the measurement in your observations. 2. Put one spoonful of salt on the paper plate. Observe the salt. Record your observations. 3. Draw circles in the pile of salt with the piece of colored chalk. 4. Observe & measure the chalk. Record your observations 5. Observe the salt. Record your observations. 6. Clean up - Put the used salt in the container provided. Dust off the counter. Make sure the lab space is as clean as possible.

4 Station 7 Fizz! Materials: Crushed chalk, vinegar, plastic spoon, beakers, petri dish, hand lens 1. Put a spoonful of the crushed chalk in a petri dish. Observe the chalk and record your observations. 2. Pour vinegar over the chalk to just cover it. Let it sit for seconds. Observe the chalk & vinegar mixture. Record your observations. 3. Pour the mixture into a petri dish. Observe with a hand lens. Record your observations. 4. Compare the chalk before and after sitting in vinegar. 5. Clean up Put the chalk/vinegar mixture down the chemical disposal sink. Wash out the petri dish and beaker. Make Station 8 More Fizz! Materials: beaker, water, effervescent tablets, tweezers 1. Place one tablet in the beaker. Observe and record your observations. 2. Cover the tablet with water. Observe and record your observations. 3. After 3 minutes, take the tablet out of the water and observe and record your observations. 4. Clean up wash the tablets down the drain. Rinse out the beaker. Dust off the counter. Make
