Through out the bible God entered into covenant (a solemn vow) with His servants. The two most significant covenants in the bible are: The blood covenant and The salt covenant. The blood covenant began in the garden when Adam and Eve sinned, it continued with Abraham as the children of Israel were circumcised. Others also entered into a blood covenant. Marriages if done as God intended is a blood covenant. Jesus death on the cross was a blood covenant. For without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sins. The blood covenant is a covenant of redemption. Jesus paid it all. The salt covenant is so powerful if we get the revelation. It s not about somebody else, it s a personal thing. It is the covenant of responsibility. Many today don t want to take on responsibility for their actions.
Numbers 18:19 All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given thee, and thy sons and thy daughters with thee, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto thee and to thy seed with thee. II Chronicles 13-5 Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt? Leviticus 2:13 and every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt. No sacrifice was given to God without salt being upon it. The same applies to us today we should not approach God if salt is not upon us.
Salt represents personal holiness, consecration and purity. When we offer God our praise our worship it should be seasoned with salt. As we minister the word rather in the pulpit, in the market place or on the street corner we should be seasoned with salt, (consecrated, holy and pure). We are not seeing the results we should in our personal lives nor in the church because we have lost our flavor. Matthew 5:13 tells us we are the salt of the earth and if we loose our savour we are good for nothing. Why because salt preserves and it also cleanses. Salt has many attributes that show us how as believers we ought to be. Another attribute of salt is, it produces thirst. Believers should produce spiritual thirst in those around them. When some one finish speaking to you they ought to be saying that was tasty!
The Salt covenant as said in the beginning is an everlasting covenant. If someone joined in a "salt covenant" with God and then breaks it they are fit only to be cast out. Matthew 5:13 ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
It is a covenant of responsibility because Jesus can not do this for you. He has done His part, now we must do our part. If you choose to enter into a salt covenant with God you are saying I vow to walk holy. I vow to walk worthy of my calling. It is not good enough to do religious acts and our personal lives stay a mess. Mark 9:50c Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. It is a personal matter but everyone feels the effects. Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. We can not even afford to offer advice or instructions to someone else, if salt is not within us.
Renew your Salt Covenant with God today! Make a vow to live consecrated and holy before him in every area of your life and watch Him demonstrate His awesome power through you.
