2 ABOUT MINDS MOVEMENT FOR THE INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED OF SINGAPORE MINDS was founded in May 1962 by a group of philanthropists who believed in the potential abilities of persons with intellectual disability. They recognised the need to provide equal opportunities for children with intellectual disability to receive education and later, to be integrated as contributing and responsible citizens in Singapore. Since then, MINDS has grown to become one of the oldest and largest non-governmental organisations catering to the needs of persons with moderate to severe intellectual disability in Singapore.

3 SOCIAL ENTERPRISE The MINDS Social Enterprise unit is run as part of the Employment Development Centres where vocational training is provided to adults with intellectual disability. MINDS started a range of social enterprise units to provide alternative work engagement opportunities for our adult beneficiaries. Some of these units such as MINDS Craft began as a therapy programme as well as to encourage the development of fine motor skills. Other units such as MINDS Food and MINDS Shop were set up to provide a more realistic vocational training environment for beneficiaries who then went on for open employment opportunities in the F&B, retail and hospitality industries.

5 DISCOVER OUR STORY FROM A THERAPY PROGRAMME TO MINDS BAKERS In 2012, MINDS Bakers began as a therapy programme to cultivate positive work behaviour in our beneficiaries. We started with a small team of 5 beneficiaries and 1 training officer, flipped to the easiest recipe from a cook book and baked our first batch of cookies. Initially, the beneficiaries could only be involved in scooping the dough onto the trays as most of them had challenges reading the weighing scale and recognizing ingredients. We also stayed away from complicated shapes and designs as cookie cutting required levelling skills that our beneficiaries could not handle then. Over time however, we managed to train them in the various aspects and today, we have different types of cookies and other baked treats to boast of!

Our kitchen also does not use pork, lard and non-halal certified ingredients.

All products are produced in kitchens handling nuts, dairy and gluten. Though we are not halal certified, we adhere strictly to the use of halal certified ingredients. Our kitchen also does not use pork, lard and non-halal certified ingredients. We offers a wide variety of packaging and customised solutions for weddings, birthday parties and corporate events.
