The contests for bread, cakes, candy, cookies, pies and canned goods are open to the residents of Williamson County from age 12 through adult, or those who are members of a Williamson County Club/Group related to foods. The contests for children (ages 8 through 11) are open to all residents of Williamson County and will state age restrictions where appropriate. Check carefully for dates of each contest. 2. The schedule for the Culinary Arts Department is listed below: Wednesday, July 30, 2008 Received 8:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. (Winners will be posted Fair Opening Day, Friday, August 1, 2008.) Canned Goods All Display Classes: Decorated Cakes Gifts for the Season Grandma s Cookie Jar Gift Baskets from Home Saturday, August 2, 2008 Received 8:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. (Winners will be posted and 1st and 2nd place winners will be displayed following the judging, with bake sale to follow.) Section 102 Cakes Section 103 Candy Section 104 Cookies Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Received 8:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. (Winners will be posted and 1st and 2nd place winners will be displayed at 5:00 p.m., with bake sale to follow.) 2 Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Kids in the Kitchen Registration at 1:00 p.m., Judging at 2:00 p.m. 3. All entries in the Display Classes (Decorated Cakes, Gifts for the Season, Grandma s Cookie Jar, Gift Baskets from Home), All Canned Goods, as well as all 1st and 2nd place winners in the baking classes (cakes, candy, cookies, breads, pies) will be displayed for the duration of the Fair, August Exhibits must be on disposable containers and/or secured in zip-type plastic bag. Contestants must provide chilled environment for entries needing refrigeration for food safety. 5. An entry is comprised of any of the following: Bread... 1 whole loaf 6 rolls or biscuits or muffins Cornbread... 6 muffins or 1 small pan Cake...1 whole cake Candy...12 pieces Canned Goods...1 standard jar Cookies...12 cookies Pies... 1 whole pie 6. Canned products must have been processed within previous 12 months with date on container. Standard pints or quarts will be used for fruits, vegetables, and pickles and standard pints or half-pints for jams, jellies, and preserves. Entries not in standard jars will not be accepted. Judges may taste only jams, jellies, preserves and pickles. 7. Entries in the cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and candy contests will be sold at a designated time on the day of the contest. On the last night of the fair, Williamson County s Champion Cook will be determined and contestants with the highest points will divide the money from the sale. The contestants must sign an agreement to allow their product to be sold. If they are not willing to do this, they will be disqualified from Champion Cook competition and must take their food product after the specified contest. 8. All baked goods must be made from scratch. Exception: Decorated cakes may be made from a mix, or prepared on a non-edible decorating base. 9. Any non-disposable container, including canning jars, must have owner s name written with permanent marker on bottom. 10. Be sure to read Special Rules for each Creative Cooking section. 11. Any contestant who has won 2 years in a row in a particular class is ineligible to enter that class. Entries not designated for sale will be disposed of if not picked up by the contestant. 31

Entries will be displayed in the Culinary Arts area during the competitions. They should be picked up Sunday, August 10, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 6. Youth age is years; Adults age 19 and up. 2. The contestant will decorate a cake that reflects the theme Celebrate!. 3. Emphasis is on appearance, not flavor. Cake mixes or dummie forms may be used. Display board must not measure more than 20 x 20. Decorated cakes will be neither cut nor tasted. 4. No copyrighted / patented labeled accessory or motif may be used. 5. Judging will be based on: Appearance... 60% Interpretation of theme... 30% Neatness... 10% 6. Prizes: 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd place prize packages will be awarded. 7. Entries will be displayed in the Culinary Arts area during the competitions. They should be picked up on Sunday, August 10, 10:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. 8. Entries must be presented on sturdy display boards. 9. The food in this contest will not be sold but participants are eligible for the Section 103 Candy: SATURDAY, August 2 A Fudge B Divinity C Hard Candy/ Lollipops D Miscellaneous E Gift of the Season *** (see special rules below) S Candy Best of Show Special Rules for Class E Gift of the Season JULY This contest is open to all Williamson County residents, aged 12 and over. 2. Contestants must decorate and fill a container with homemade candy to be presented as a gift. The decoration and the candy should indicate an occasion when giving a gift of candy is appropriate. (Examples: Christmas, Valentine s Day, birthday, Halloween). 3. Judging will be based on: 33

(Pictures of grandchildren in the wallet may be used as proof of grandparenthood.) 2. The contestant will attractively fill a clear, widemouthed cookie jar with chocolate chip cookies. 3. The entry will be prepared from scratch. Mixes will not be allowed. 4. A separate zip-type plastic bag containing 4 chocolate chip cookies must be submitted for judging. 5. Children will be judges for this contest. The cookies will be judged for: Flavor...50% Appearance...25% Appearance of cookie jar...25% 6. Prizes: 1 st, 2 nd, & 3 rd place prize packages given by Martha White. 7. Entries will be displayed in the Culinary Arts area during the competitions. Contest is open to children in Williamson County ages 8 11 on the day of the contest. Parents may participate with child. 2. Categories: (Child may enter 1 item per category) Sweets - (cookies, brownies, cakes, pies, etc) Non-sweets - (meat, casseroles, snacks, etc) 3. All products must be cooked or baked. Items must be prepared from scratch. No mixes accepted. 4. The child should have made most of the product and be able to explain the procedure. The child needs to be available during the judging procedure for questions. 5. The recipe must be presented with the entry and becomes the property of the Fair. 6. Entries must be presented in disposable containers or in zip-type plastic bags. Entries needing refrigeration for food safety must be presented in a chilled environment. 7. Prizes: Pampered Chef representatives will provide prize packages for 1 st, 2 nd, and 3 rd places in each category. 8. Winning entries will be photographed and displayed for the duration of the fair. 9. The food in this contest will not be sold and participants are not eligible for the 35
