1 NOR-CAL NARPI NEWS October/November 2013 Doug Nunes, President, Al Dockus, Vice President Bill Kienzle, Secretary Bob Dower, Treasurer Nunes Notes Well our experiment in the Woods resulted in a group of 17 of our members sharing Lunch Oct 3, 2013 at Sequoia Woods Country Club. We were very proud of the Chef, who prepared one of the best Prime Rib Lunches or Dinners we have experienced. The day was clear and just right for a ride from the Bay Area to Arnold, CA. After lunch we all went to Calaveras Big Trees State Park for a guided tour of the North Grove of the Park, a mixed conifer forest with a scattering of the biggest trees in the world. Not the biggest which is in Sequoia National Park, but with many very large Giant Sequoias; including the Stump of the Discovery Tree, felled in 1853 and having a diameter of more than 25 feet. The guide for the day was Kathy Fitzpatrick, a retired high school teacher and a fellow Docent at Big Trees. After our hike in the Woods 12 of our number retired to local hotel accommodations and then we all meet up at our home for dinner. The night was a typical fall evening with a little nip of cold so we all cuddled under the heat of our deck heater for drinks and conversation. We had dinner inside of more beef and wine. I proclaimed the evening a great success. We had a large crew of Nor-Cal Chapter members attend the Chicago Reunion, Sept including golf.
2 There will only be two Reunions in 2014; one in Black Hills, SD (Mt. Rushmore) June 2014 and Monterey, CA Sept 28-30, 2014 (Hosted by Nor-Cal Chapter). In 2015 one of the two Reunions will be in Boston, MA. It was decided by the three Regional Presidents that there will only be two reunions per year (East and West). The Mid- America Region Chapters will be split between Western and Eastern Region for the purpose of assigning the yearly reunion sight (More details will be developed as to those assignments). I have a supply of Retired Inspector Logo shirts on the way and will send out details once I have them in hand, they will be $25 each. October Luncheon In the words of Editor Arthur Brisbane "A picture is worth a thousand words". That is how we will describe our October luncheon in Arnold CA. Stump of the Discovery Tree Discovery Tree Jim & Lana Hanney (Pioneer Cabin Tree) We all fit into the Pioneer Cabin Tree!
