GENOA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT HOSTS DINNER AND MUSIC FOR 60TH ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY, AUGUST 29TH The Genoa V.F.D. is celebrating its 60th anniversary on August 29, 2009, at 4 p.m., with a BBQ dinner and concert by the Promise band. Tickets are $20 for the dinner and concert. Dinner includes: BBQ chicken, BBQ Teriyaki chicken or BBQ Beef brisket, plus potatoes, beans and coleslaw. Call for more information. TOWN ACCESS FOR RESIDENTS ONLY Back street detours are setup to provide access to Residents Only while all road traffic is diverted from downtown Genoa during Candy Dance Faire hours. UNAUTHORIZED VEHICLES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE THROUGH DOWNTOWN DURING CANDY DANCE FAIRE HOURS. (All emergency, police and fire vehicles are exempt from this policy for any police or medical emergencies or fires within the town.) Residents are allowed into the Town on Detour Roads Only please see map on the back of your Town Access Pass. Public safety and town liability require the enforcement of this policy during the Candy Dance Faire, when an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 visitors walk the streets of Genoa over the Faire weekend. Town Access Passes will be delivered to Genoa residents before September 18. Road closures within the Town of Genoa occur Sept. 26 & 27, from 7 a.m. 5 p.m. Residents are required to carry Town Access Passes with them in their cars, if they want to leave or enter the Town by car during the Candy Dance Faire. Residents and visitors will be able to freely enter and leave Genoa by car without passes before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. PAGE 4 Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival GENOA APRIL 29 MAY 2, 2010 The Town of Genoa, in partnership with the Carson Valley Arts Council, is o r g a n i z i n g a n e w G e n o a Ev e n t. S p o n s o r s h o p e i t w i l l b e c o m e a significant economic driver for Genoa and the Carson Valley. The first ever Genoa Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival is slated for April 29 May 2, and organizers are working to combine Carson Valley s cultural heritage and histor y with music, poetry, performance and visual arts to create an event worthy of its location. The Festival will feature: Over 50 performances Exhibits & Vendors Workshops Food & Beverages Cowboy Poetry Music, and more Participants in all areas, from well known musical and cowboy poetry performers to crafters, instructors and vendors are being pursued by the festival s Program Committee and other committees, and are moving forward to put their elements in place. Volunteers, both at the Committee and Event levels, are still needed, and those interested in becoming a part of t h e fi r st year of t h e Fe stiv a l a re encouraged to contact the Town of Genoa office. PAGE 5 Masons host the Annual Candy Dance Pancake Breakfast Douglas County Masonic Lodge #12 will serve a pancake breakfast in the historic Masonic Lodge building in Genoa from 6 to 10:30 am, Saturday and Sunday, September The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, milk and orange juice. The cost is $5 per person at the door. Proceeds help preserve and maintain Breakfast Includes: Eggs, Sausage & PANCAKES served with coffee, tea, milk and orange juice. the Masonic Lodge building in Genoa. For information or to volunteer to help with the Pancake Breakfast, call Genoa non-motorized trail project proposed The Genoa Foothill Trail System is a proposed non-motorized trail project by the Carson Valley Trails Association (CVTA) located in the Carson Range of the Sierras near Genoa. This trail system would include an 11-mile trail from the future Adams Canyon Trailhead to Old Kingsbury Grade, traversing the mountains 1,000-1,500 feet above Genoa. A 2-mile trail would connect directly to this traversing trail from the town of Genoa. An additional 8-mile trail would connect to the Tahoe Rim Trail near Genoa Peak. Th e C V T A h a s r e c e i v e d a $396,378 Question 1 Grant from the Nevada Division of State Lands to f u n d a m a j o r i t y o f t h e t r a i l construction for this project area. The U.S. Forest Service has recently begun required environmental Genoa Foothill TRAIL SYSTEM proposed by the Carson Valley Trail Association impact studies. Future public input meetings will be held for feedback and comments. Fundraising efforts are ongoing by the CVTA and donations a r e w e l c o m e d t o s u p p o r t t h e completion of this entire trail system Candy Dance WEEKEND ROAD CLOSURES AND DETOURS: U.S. Highway 395 narrows to one lane before the intersection with Genoa Lane. Left turns will not be permitted when departing from Genoa on Genoa Lane. Turn right and travel south into Minden and make a U-turn at the light at the junction of Highway 88 and U.S. Highway 395. The following roads will be closed at the specified locations throughout the Candy Dance weekend: Genoa Lane at Kinsey Way Foothill Road at Candy Dance Lane Jacks Valley Road at the Genoa Cemetery

6 The Town of Genoa Recreation Committee has been sponsoring a safe alternative for Trick or Treating for Genoa area families for many years now. Join us for some ghoulish games, freaky fun and cool prizes for everyone in costume. Parents: Please bring a main potluck dish for the dinner, or donate a bottle of wine for the Parents Bar. The Town w i l l provide s oft drinks and treats. There are many people in town during the two-day event, as well as hot weather that may stress your pet. Please leave them at home where they feel safe and can keep cool.
