3 LARC Recreation Spring 2016 OVERNIGHT NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND Saturday May 21, 2016 to Sunday May 22, Cost: $ not accessible Leaving at 8:30am on Saturday May 21 at 923 Migeon Avenue Returning at 4:30pm on Sunday May 22 at 923 Migeon Avenue $50.00 deposit required with registration Cost includes: all admissions / meals (two lunches / one dinner / snacks and breakfast) / transportation and overnight stay at Riverview Inn and Suite in Somerset, RI Some of the Attractions we will be visiting: Newport Trolley Shopping in Brickwalk Mall Exploration Center and Aquarium And other attractions along the way WEEKLY MOVE 4 HEALTH: Thursdays afternoon: 4:45pm to 5:45pm Cost: $5.00 accessible Always starting at 923 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, CT Every Thursday starting: April 14 th till June 2 nd, Eight week program Always outside with a program / rainy day program: inside at 923 Migeon Avenue with an exercise program and discussions of healthy choices. BOWLING is continuing: For 6 weeks: at Thomaston Lanes Start Date: Tuesday May 3, 2016 End Date: Tuesday June 7, 2016 Will also start again at the beginning of September information will be sent in August. 4 MONTHLY ACTIVITIES All monthly activities are at 923 Migeon Avenue in Torrington and are accessible BINGO: Wednesday evenings Time: 6:15pm to 7:45pm Cost: $ 8.00 Not scheduled in April May 4 th June 1 st Enjoy multiple games of bingo with friends! Everyone wins at least two seasonal prizes. Refreshments are served at 7:30pm. GAMES: Friday evenings: Time: 6:15pm to 7:45pm Cost: $ 7.00 April 15 May 6 June 3 An evening of fun. Many games are available to play along with wii. Refreshments are served at 7:15pm. CRAFTS: Saturday morning: Time: 10:00pm to 11:30pm Cost: $ 8.00 Completing three seasonal crafts to take home. Please bring a bag to carry your crafts home in. Sit at tables like the Gilson, watching the movie. TRIPS SCHEDULED IN APRIL Tuesday April 19, 2016 Magic Wings / Holyoke Mall Time: 8:30am to 3:30pm Cost: $66.00 not accessible A day out starting at Magic Wings in Deerfield, Massachusetts with butterflies around and lizards, small birds and a couple of tortoises. Lunch will be in their cafeteria. Travel to Holyoke Mall for a purchase or two and then we will be back at Migeon Avenue Bring money for a purchase or two at either the Magic Wings Giftshop or Holyoke Mall. Saturday April 23, 2016 Trolley Museum / Burger King Time: 10:30am to 3:30pm Cost: $48.00 not accessible A Saturday to travel the rails at the New England Trolley Museum in Windsor, Connecticut We will be able to ride on at least two trolleys. Lunch will be at Burger King which is right down the road. Bring money for a purchase in their gift shop. Tuesday April 26, 2016 Beardsley Zoo Time: 9:00am to 3:30pm Cost: $45.00 not accessible Take a day off from work to travel to the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Traveling around the grounds, seeing all of the animals from Wolves, Buffalo, Alligators, Bald Eagles and many more. Maybe some baby animals. Bring a sandwich or salad and I will purchase fries / drinks for all. Bring money for a purchase in the gift shop. Saturday April 30, 2016 Meriden Daffodil Festival Time: 9:30am to 3:00pm Cost: $35.00 not accessible A Saturday to walk around Hubbard Park in Meriden with all daffodils blooming. There are over 40 craft vendors to make a purchase with. Lunch will be in the food tent. Musical entertainment around the grounds. Bring money for a purchase or two from the craft vendors. TRIPS SCHEDULED IN MAY Sunday May 1, 2016 Beauty and the Beast Jr. At Warner Theatre Time: 12:00pm to 3:00pm Cost: $42.00 accessible A Sunday afternoon to watch Beauty and the Beast Jr. in the Studio Theatre at Warner in Torrington, CT Lunch at Hibachi Grill in Torrington before the show. Travel to New Britain Stadium in New Britain, Connecticut to watch the new baseball team the BEES. First pitch: 10:35am They are an Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Lunch will be inside the stadium (hotdog / drink / chips) If you would like, bring money to purchase a souvenir of the new baseball team. Sunday May 8, 2016 Beardsley Zoo Time: 9:00am to 3:00pm Cost: $45.00 accessible A Mother Day outing to the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Tuesday May 17, 2016 Bushnell Theatre Time: 4:30pm to 9:30pm Cost: $90.00 not accessible At the Bushnell Theatre Catapult, as seen on NBC's America's Got Talent. Presents an evening of moving and funny stories created through the magic of their incredible shadow transformations. It is theater, dance and magic in an amazing demonstration of what the human body and imagination can accomplish. Dinner will be at Wendi s in West Hartford on the way there. No extra money will be necessary. Rides home after the performance Friday May 20, 2016 Thimble Island / Ice Cream treat Time: 9:15am to 3:00pm Cost: $61.00 not accessible A day on the water drive to Stony Creek, Connecticut for a 45 minute boat ride around the Thimble Islands. There are many summer homes on tiny islands. On the way to the surprise stop, we will stop for lunch. An ice cream treat will be in New Haven. Bring a lunch I will purchase drinks and chips. No extra money is necessary. Wednesday May 25, 2016 Mystic Aquarium Time: 8:30am to 4:30pm Cost: $95.00 not accessible A day to visit the fish, sea lions, penguins and Beluga whales. We will watch the Sea Lion show, touch the rays and maybe see walrus or two. Lunch is included Bring money for a purchase in the gift shop. Friday May 27, 2016 Mini Golf / Sophia s Restaurant Time: 2:00pm to 6:00pm Cost: $27.00 not accessible A Friday afternoon to play miniature golf at R & B Sports World in Winsted, Connecticut. If you would like, bring money to purchase a souvenir of the new baseball team Saturday June 18, 2016 Goshen Stampede Time: 10:30am to 4:30pm Cost: $52.00 not accessible Be a cowboy or cowgirl for the day come to the Goshen Stampede in Goshen, Connecticut. On the schedule for Saturday: Red Neck Games start at 11:00am - Truck Pull starts at noon - Kids Rodeo starts at 3:00pm - There is also the Remote control Car races throughout the day and country bands playing - Bring money for a purchase from one of the many vendors. Saturday June 25, 2016 Balloon Event Time: 4:00pm to 9:30pm Cost: $48.00 accessible A Saturday evening at the Copake KOA in Copake, New York to watch the launch of Hot Air Balloons in their campground. Grinders / chips / drinks will be available for dinner. Also a special dessert No extra money is necessary. Rides home after the balloon launch SPECIAL OLYMPIC TEAM LARC Track and Field Team Starting on Monday April 4 th from 6:30 7:30 At: Torrington High School track Please contact Robin at ext. 202 if you are interested in the Track and Field team by April 3, 2016 LARC Bocce Team Starting in July - tournament for those over the age of 30 - and skills for those under 30 Those interested will be receiving more information by the end of June.
