Tackman Wow, another winter is coming to an end. I hope you had a chance to attend one of our exciting events this past season. We are excited to launch a new event this year, our 1 st Annual Winter Festival! More details below in this packet. We are also always looking for new ideas for programs and volunteers. 3 FAMILY SKATING NIGHT Will be offered on Saturday, February 10 th at the Clinton Square Ice Rink from 4:00 6:00 pm. The cost is free for Village of East Syracuse Residents and $3.00 for NR. Includes Admission & Skates. No Transportation provided. Parks & Rec Staff will meet participants at rink. Pre- registration required. FEBRUARY BREAK ACTIVITIES The following programs will be offered by the East Syracuse Park & Recreation Department during the week of February 20 th Feb 23 rd. Pre registration is required for all events. CNY KARATE Join the staff of CNY Karate for a 1 ½ hours of fun and games. Program will be offered on Tuesday, February 20 th from 12:15 1:45 at East Syracuse Elementary School Gym. Cost is free. Learn some basic karate and play several fun games. ROLLERSKATING Will be offered on Tuesday, February 20 th at East Syracuse Elementary school. Cost is $5.00, which is payable directly to Be-mar Roller-skating on day of event. Party runs from 2:00 3:30. Includes 1 ½ hours skating and skate rental. PARENT/CHILD PAINT DAY- Will be offered on Wednesday, February 21 st at East Syracuse Elementary. Cost is $5.00.Cost includes canvas and all supplies, snacks & refreshments. Program will run from 10:00 12:00. Preregistration and payment required. If you are staying for out of the cage Pet Mobile. Bring a bag lunch. Refreshments will be provided. OUT OF THE CAGE PET MOBILE Will be offered on Wednesday, February 21 st at East Syracuse Elementary from 10:00 11:00 for all ages. Free. Out Of the Cage Pet Mobile is a traveling exotic petting zoo. Children will learn about several animals and will be allowed to touch and hold them. YOUTH BUMPER ROCK N BOWL - Will be offered on Thursday, February 22 nd for youth ages 4 13 at Bowl Mor Lanes. Cost is $7.00: includes 1 ½ hours open bowling (lanes will be darkened and music will be playing), shoes, slice pizza & soda. Bowling is from 10:00 11:30 am. Payment will be directly to Bowl Mor lanes on day of event 3 ON 3 BASKETBALL TOURNEY- Will be offered on Friday, February 23 rd at East Syracuse Elementary from 10: Put together a team of your own or we will put you on a team. Open to children grades 1-6 Cost is $5.00 which include several basketball games, hot shot competition, refreshments and awards. Payments made directly to Steve Graham on day of event INTRAMURALS & PIZZA PARTY- Join the East Syracuse Parks & Recreation Dept. and ESE Physical Education Teacher Steve Graham for a day of your favorite gym games on Friday, February 23 rd at East Syracuse Elementary. Program runs from 12:15-2:30 pm. Cost is $5.00 which includes pizza & refreshments. Open to children grades 1 5. Payments will be made directly to Steve Graham on the day of event 1 st ANNUAL WINTER FESTIVAL- Will be held on Saturday, February 24 th from 12 3:00 at Ellis Field Park. Events includes Macaroni & cheese cook off, kiddy games, sledding (weather permitting), Horse drawn wagon rides, arts and crafts, bonfire with Hot chocolate, snow kickball and Frisbee golf, concession stand, village wide snowman building contest and a scavenger hunt throughout the Village. 4 CHILD & BABY SITTING SAFTEY COURSE EAVES Ambulance will be holding a Child and Babysitting Safety class on Friday, February 23 rd from 9:00 12:00 at the Village of East Syracuse Municipal Building (2 nd floor). Class is open to youth 11 years and older. Pre- Registration and payment is required. Course completion cards will be mailed to participants. Cost is $ Pre-registration & payment payable to Eaves) is required. (checks FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT -Will be offered on Friday, March 2 nd at the East Syracuse Municipal Building beginning at 6:00 pm Wear your pajamas and bring your pillows and blankets. Enjoy snacks, popcorn and Refreshments. Cost is Free. Pre- registration required. BUILD IT WITH LOWES - Children and their parent or guardian will build a project from Lowes on Saturday, March 10 th from 9:00 11:00 at the East Syracuse Municipal Building 2nd floor. Cost is $5.00 includes Bird House project kit, snacks and refreshments. Pre-registration & payment required. BREAKFAST WITH THE EASTER BUNNY- Join the Recreation Dept. for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny on Saturday, March 24 th at the Heman Street apt (121 E Heman St) from 9:30 11:30 am. Cost is $3.50 /person or $12.00 per family. Includes pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk, coffee, picture with Easter Bunny, crafts. Pre-registration and payment required. EASTER EGG HUNT -Will be held on Saturday, March 31 st at Ellis Field Park- Hanlon Pool beginning at 10:00 am sharp for ages 10 and under. Come see the Easter Bunny, Find the special egg. Candy for Everyone. (3 areas) 4 & under, 5 7, Rain or shine. EASTER COLORING CONTEST- The East Syracuse Parks & Recreation Dept. is holding a Easter Coloring contest. Coloring forms will be posted on the Website (villageofeastsyracuse.com). Forms can be turned into Village office (204 N Center Street). Deadline is Thursday, March 29 th. Winners will be announced at Easter Egg Hunt on March 31 st. TURNING STONE CASINO- Join the Village of East Syracuse on Thursdays, February 15 th, March 22 nd, April 19 th for a day out at the Turning Stone Casino. Cost is $15.00 for Village residents and $17.00 for Non-residents. Cost includes Motor-coach transportation, $15.00 in Bingo bucks or $15.00 in free play, $5.00 meal coupon. SENIOR PROGRAMS VALENTINE S DAY PARTY Will be held on Monday, February 12 th at the Heman Street Apts as part of the Keener Senior Program from 10:00 1:30. Cost is $3.00 (pay at program) includes lunch from Peace Incorporated at 12:00 noon. There will be Valentine Bingo at 10:30 and entertainment by Mike Romano and Friends at 12:30. Call for more information.

5 LES MISERABLES The East Syracuse Minoa production of the musical Les Miserables will be held on Saturday, March 10 th beginning at 2:00 pm in the Highschool Auditorium. Cost is $5.00 which includes ticket to show. There will be no bus transportation. Pre-registration and payment is required. Tickets are limited. MOVIE & PIZZA DAY Will be Held on Thursday, March 8 th at the East Syracuse Village Office (2 nd Floor). Pizza lunch at 12:00. Movie at 12:30 on Projection Screen. Cost is $3.00 includes pizza, popcorn and refreshments. The March Movie will be Wonder. Pre-registration and payment is required. VILLAGE CARD PARTY Join the East Syracuse Parks & Recreation Department for a monthly Pitch Party at the Village Municipal Building (3 rd Floor) from 10:00 1:30. Cost is $4.00 for Village Residents- Includes Lunch, snacks & refreshments and prizes. Call to register. Upcoming parties will be Friday, February 17 th, Friday, March 16 th and Thursday, April 12 th. ST. PATTY S DAY PARTY- Will be held on Thursday, March 15 th at the Heman Street Apts Community Room from 10:00 1:30. Cost is $4.00- includes Corn-beef and cabbage lunch with all the fixings, Entertainment by ESM 3 rd Grade students and ESM High-school music students. Pre-registration and payment is required. KEENER SENIORS PROGRAM Join the East Syracuse Parks & Recreation Dept and Peace Incorporated for Lunch on Monday & Wednesdays in the Heman Street Apts Community Room. Where else can you enjoy a nice meal for a suggested price of $3.00? All Onondaga County Seniors are welcome. Lunch is served at noon. Menus can be found on the Village Web site and at Village Municipal Building, 204 N Center Street. Call to reserve a meal. Recreation Activities will be offered before & after Lunch on Monday & Wednesdays at Heman Street Apts. Doors open at 9:30 am. A monthly schedule is available at the Heman Street Apts or online. Bingo is played after lunch free of charge. Prizes consist of food (bananas, Cakes, cookies, etc). Pitch & 31 Tournaments are held before lunch starting at 10:00 am. Hypertension screening, birthday party and special events are offered as well as well. Once a month children in 2 nd & 3 rd grades from East Syracuse Elementary particpate in the award winning intergenerational program at The Keener Senior program at Heman Street Apts. A good time is had by everyone. EARTH DAY CLEANUP The Village of East Syracuse will be holdings it s Annual Cleanup of the Village on Saturday April, 21 st. Participants will meet at the Village Deli at 9:00 am. Plastic gloves, bags and protective vests will be available to use. At the conclusion (11:00 am) The Village Deli will be serving volunteers hot dogs, ice cream and water. Call for more info.

6 MEN S BASKETBALL LEAGUE Will be offered on Tuesday (Some Thursdays) nights at East Syracuse Elementary. Begins May 1 st June 26 th. Registration fee is $ Registration info and rosters available online or at the Village office. SYRACUSE CHIEFS DAY- Join the Village of East Syracuse Parks & Recreation Department for a day at the ball park on Sunday, May 20 th. Cost is $4.00 for Village Residents, $6.00 for Non-residents. Includes 300 level ticket to game, Chiefs Hat. As part of the Syracuse Chiefs Kids Eat Free promotion each youth 12 & under receive will receive voucher for a hotdog, soda, popcorn & ice cream cup. After game kids can run bases: Transportation will not be will not be provided for this event. Parks & Recreation staff will be in Parking lot and will provide a small tail gate party beginning at 12:00 noon Food $en$e is a program of the Food Bank of Central New York designed to help individuals and families stretch their food dollars by ordering quality food at low prices. This program is open to anyone and everyone that wants to save money on their monthly grocery bill! There are no income requirements. 7 Village of East Syracuse Garbage, Recyclables, Trash, and Yard Waste Collection The Village of East Syracuse has contracted with Butler Disposal Systems, to pick-up garbage and recyclables. There are 4 types of waste that are collected in the Village of East Syracuse. (1) Garbage is general household disposable material. It is organic waste material, both animal and vegetable, liquid or otherwise. Garbage MUST be in a garbage bag. (2) Recyclables are those items mandated by the county to be collected separately from garbage and trash. This would include newspapers, plastics, household metal cans, glass containers, and corrugated cardboard (3) Yard Waste is, for example: tree branches, twigs, brush clippings, and garden clippings. (4) Trash is, for example: washer & dryers, dishwashers, broken swing-sets, construction debris. Rules & Changes Garbage and Recyclables collection will be collected on FRIDAY, every week. Butler Disposal, the Village s contractor, will be handling the collection of garbage & recyclables. Garbage bags can be placed in garbage cans for pickup. Garbage will not be picked up if it is loose (no bag) in the can; Garbage should not be placed out before 4PM the day before collection; A maximum of 8 bags will be collected at each property; No stickers are required on garbage. Yard Waste collection takes place ONLY April through October. The Village DPW will pick up Yard Waste every Monday of these months. Branches and large brush must be tied and bundled; Yard waste CANNOT be placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes. It should be put by the curb in a plastic or metal container. Paper yard waste bags can be used; In October and November, leaves can still be raked (loose) to the curb for pickup on any day; No Stickers are required on Yard Waste Trash collection is every 2 nd and 4 th Monday of the month for the entire year. Stickers are still required for Trash (please use existing Blue stickers); A schedule for sticker use on trash items is available, but typically white goods require 5 stickers. Loose items should be contained either in a receptacle or plastic bag. Televisions and computer monitors can no longer be put out to the curb. These items must be recycled through the Manufacturer or acceptable drop-of
