1 Weily Soong, MD Dr. Weily Soong is a native of Birmingham, and graduated from Vestavia Hills High School, Birmingham-Southern College, and the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, and remained at Yale for his Allergy and Clinical Immunology Fellowship training. While at Yale, he did research on the development of pediatric asthma at the Yale Center for Perinatal, Pediatric and Environmental Epidemiology and participated in the 2004 School in Primary Immune Deficiency Disorders. Dr. Soong is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, and can treat both adult and pediatric allergy and immunology diseases. He is on the clinical faculty of the allergy department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also the Medical Director of the Clinical Research Center of Alabama, located at Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center. Dr. Soong firmly believes that patients always deserve the highest quality of care for their allergic and immunologic conditions, and that the treatments for their conditions are scientifically proven and evidence based. He believes patients should always be treated with kindness, compassion, and respect. He has an interest in a variety of allergic and immunologic conditions, including asthma, the allergic march, atopic dermatitis, food allergies, chronic urticaria, and primary immunodeficiency. Dr. Soong is very active in our community, and serves on the Board of Directors for the group FOR Nicaraguan Health, a Birmingham-based medical mission organization. The group helps indigent people in Nicaragua, and Dr. Soong has traveled with the group to Nicaragua many times. He is also a member of the Alabama Department of Public Health s Alabama Asthma Coalition, Highlands United Methodist Church, and on the advisory board of The Assistance League of Birmingham. Dr. Soong and his wife, Lauri, have a daughter and son, Katie and Will. He also enjoys playing tennis, watching baseball, and doing home improvement projects. 3 Maxcie Sikora, MD Being a naturally curious person, the field of allergy and immunology has been the perfect choice as a profession for Dr. Maxcie Sikora. Our understanding of the immune system's role in the overall health of our bodies grows every day. To be a part of this process is very exciting for her. It is also very rewarding to pass this new knowledge on to her patients to help improve their quality of life. As a lifelong allergy sufferer, Dr. Sikora recognizes the importance of appropriate medications and procedures in treatment. Food allergy is one of her special interests, as it affects every aspect of a patient's life as well as their family's life. Assisting families with diagnosis, avoidance measures, lifestyle changes, and treatment of allergies is very rewarding. With appropriate management, her patients are able to lead healthy and productive lives. As an allergist, Dr. Sikora strives to always provide up-to-date patient care through kindness, humility and respect. Dr. Sikora is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology. She received her Doctorate from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine in Mobile, AL. She completed her Residency in Pediatrics at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, FL. Dr. Sikora completed her Fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, where she was also a former Assistant Professor. 4 Sunena Argo,MD Dr. Sunena Argo grew up in Birmingham, Alabama where she graduated from Jefferson County IB School, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, AR. She then moved to Kansas City, MO to complete her Allergy and Immunology Fellowship at the University of Missouri Kansas City and Children's Mercy Hospitals and Clinics. After completing her training, she returned home to Birmingham to begin her practice. Dr. Argo is board certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Argo is passionate about the development and natural course of food allergy in children. Her goal is to appropriately identify the food allergen(s) and guide patients through lifestyle modifications at home and school as well as follow their long-term outcomes. Her other clinical interests include asthma, allergies, immunodeficiency, and chronic urticarial. She strives to build a long-term relationship with her patients by developing a team approach with the patients to manage their disease. This approach includes listening to patient concerns, answering questions, formulating a plan, and educating patients about their disease. She hopes this relationship leads to improvement in her patient s quality of life. Dr. Argo lives in Pelham with her husband, children, and dog. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, the outdoors, and photography. 5 Carolyn Comer, MD OIT (Oral Immunotherapy) Program Medical Director Dr. Carolyn Comer is a native of Birmingham and graduated from Auburn University and the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and Fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the prestigious National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine in Denver, Colorado. Dr. Comer is Board Certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Pediatrics, and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Comer has participated in numerous scientific medical studies and has been published in multiple medical journals, and has been active in research and patient education. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, and the Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Comer is licensed to practice in Alabama, Oregon, and the State of Washington. Dr. Comer is recognized in the area, practicing at Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center from 1995 to 2008, before pursuing her practice in Washington State. Dr. Comer has a passion for pediatric allergy, asthma, and immunology and enjoys helping patients with allergies and their families to improve their day to day quality of life. She loves talking to her patients and takes time to listen diligently and to understand them as individuals with very specific needs and goals for treatment. Dr. Comer returns to Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center as the Medical Director of our OIT (Oral Immunotherapy) Program. Until recently, the only answer for food allergies was avoidance of the allergen. Dr. Comer is excited to be offering patients with food allergies, in particular, peanut allergy, an option for a better quality of life. She is committed to offering them the personalized and individualized care they need. Outside of the clinic setting, Dr. Comer enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her family and her two beloved golden retrievers. 6 William Massey, MD Dr. William Massey was born and raised in Birmingham. He graduated from Amherst College and the University of Alabama School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Allergy Fellowship at the John Hopkins Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland. He remained at John Hopkins for four years while he did research, taught, and treated patients. He then returned to Alabama to practice allergy, and was most recently at Eastern Pulmonary Sleep and Allergy in Trussville before joining Alabama Allergy & Asthma Center in September Dr. Massey is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified in Allergy and Clinical Immunology. He is trained to treat both adults and children with allergy and immunologic diseases. He believes that all should be treated with respect, dignity, and compassion. He knows it is important to develop long term relationships with his patients so that they can work together to control their allergic disease. He has a special interest in treating patients with asthma, hay fever, anaphylaxis, hives, and allergies to food and stinging insects. He takes an active role in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students. Dr. Massey has published many articles in the field, and is a member of the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy and Immunology. He is also a former President of the Alabama Society of Allergy and Immunology. Dr. Massey enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, the outdoors, sailing, and watching sports. He lives with his wife, a 15 pound rescue dog who thinks he's a Great Dane, two cats, and has two grown children who live nearby.
