Policy Scope Thi policy applie to all tudent of Tintern Grammar. All member of the School community hould be familiar with thi policy. Definition Anaphylaxi i a evere, rapidly progreive and potentially life threatening allergic reaction. The mot common trigger (allergen) are peanut, tree nut (e.g. hazelnut, cahew and almond), cow milk, egg, wheat, oybean, eame (ee/oil), fih and hellfih. Although thee are the mot common trigger, any food can trigger an allergic reaction. Other common allergen include latex, inect and medication. Peanut and tree nut are the allergen that mot often aociated with fatal reaction; however, people have died a a reult of other trigger uch a milk and hellfih. The incidence of allergy, including anaphylaxi i increaing. Although evere allergy/ anaphylaxi i now more common than it wa in the 1990, death from anaphylaxi remain rare. The only way to prevent anaphylaxi i to avoid the trigger. The key to prevention of anaphylaxi in Grammar i knowledge of thoe tudent who have been diagnoed at rik, awarene of trigger, and prevention of expoure to thee allergen. Mot allergic reaction can be prevented. Firt aid treatment for anaphylaxi i adrenaline. In the community etting, adrenaline i adminitered via an adrenaline auto-injector, following intruction on the individual Allergy Action Plan for Anaphylaxi. Thoe at rik of anaphylaxi are precribed an adrenaline auto-injector. The adrenaline auto-injector currently available in Autralia are Epipen and Anapen. Purpoe The Anaphylaxi Management Policy aim to: provide, a far a poible, a afe and upportive environment in which tudent at rik of anaphylaxi can participate equally in all apect of chool life; raie awarene about anaphylaxi and emergency procedure for anaphylaxi in the School community; engage with parent/guardian/carer ( parent ) of any tudent who ha been diagnoed by a medical practitioner a having a medical condition that relate to allergy and the potential for anaphylactic reaction ( at-rik tudent ), in aeing rik and developing rik minimiation and management trategie for thoe at-rik tudent ; and Anaphylaxi Management Page 1 of
