1 Orton Botanical Garden aka Plantasia Cactus Gardens 867 Filer Ave W Twin Falls, Idaho (208) lorton1@msn.com plantasiacactusgardens.com W Winter Hardy Cactus and Succulent List for 2017 List Validity e try to keep our plant list up to date with available plants. We frequently add or delete plants, so before ordering please check our website for the most updated list, Some plants are very limited in number so may be on the list only a very short time. Please check our website at plantasiacactusgardens.com for latest updates. W Cold Hardiness e have included with each listing an estimate of the coldest zone that a given plant may be able to withstand based on U.S. Department of Agriculture winter temperature zones. These zones cannot be accepted as absolute, as there are many variables that affect a plant s ability to withstand cold. Some of the factors are: 1) how well the plant is established, 2) plant health, 3) length of time that temperatures stay below freezing, 4) microclimate in which the plant may be placed, 5) snow cover, and 6) moisture. The temperature zones used in the list are: Zone 4: -30 to -20 F

2 Zone 5: -20 to -10 F Zone 6: -10 to 0 F Zone 7: 0 to 10 F These are intended to be general guidelines only. Each gardener may experience success or failure based on his own set of conditions. We would love to hear from our customers about their experiences with the various species from different areas of the country. W Ordering From Us e ask that you mail in your order using the attached order form with a check. We take orders over the telephone to hold plants, but we do not take credit cards at this time. We will hold your order until payment has been received. Orders are held until personal checks clear. Orders accompanied by cashiers checks or money orders are shipped within several days of receipt of the order when received April through November. If you would like to pay by PayPal, you are welcome to your order to us and we will send a PayPal invoice. P Shipping Dates lease indicate on the order form when you would like plants shipped. Shipments are made from April to November, depending on weather. We like our plants to be fully filled out from their winter dehydration before we ship them. When they fill out in the spring depends on weather and species. Please contact us if you have extenuating circumstances and need plants shipped other times of the year. W What To Do When Plants Arrive hen plants are received, the plants with roots can be planted immediately. Cactus cuttings should be placed in a dry, shaded, warm area for about two weeks to allow them to heal well. After that they can be planted. Cacti should be planted in relatively dry soil and not watered in. After a couple of weeks they can be watered. Agaves, yuccas other desert plants should be planted and watered in immediately after they arrive. They should be watered regularly until they are well established. Once established, they should be watered sparingly. Well-drained soil is essential for the survival of the plants on this list. In wetter climates it may be necessary to incorporate 50% to 75% sand or fine gravel into the soil for proper drainage. Cacti, agaves and yuccas do not, however, like 100% sand. Using raised beds helps assure proper drainage. Shipping outside the USA We will ship outside of the USA, but must know the laws of the country to which plants are being shipped. In most cases additional paper work is required and postage costs are always more. Please contact us before ordering from outside the USA. Have a great 2017 gardening year! Gift certificates are available any time of the year. 2
