1 RO CK G A RDE N SH T T I S CO C L U B / 14 SEED 67 th DISTRIBUTION Send requests for seeds to: Dr Alan J Hayes, 31 Liberton Brae, Edinburgh, EH16 6AG, Scotland. Send seed donations to: Prof G Stuart Pawley, Acres of Keillour, Methven, Perth, PH1 3RA, Scotland. Please read page 2 and the notes in the Yearbook

2 The Scottish Rock Garden Club 67th Seed Distribution, 2013/14 This year s list has gone wild, both in the garden and in the wild. It is more extensive than any in recent years, with many new donors and new Centurions (sending >100 taxa). Some donors have even apologised for a short list, having experienced poor conditions! You all now have some work to do (more details in the Notes). Application As usual this year, you can apply for seed using the order forms in the centre of the booklet, sending these to Alan Hayes, or you can choose to go online at the SRGC website (see centre page (ii)) to make your booking. The website password is on centre page (i). Even if you send in an order on the paper forms by post, you will be able to pay for seed by credit card online in Sterling, but not by debit card. All orders must be received by January 15th. Donors may choose 25 packets, non-donors 16 packets. Please follow the instructions carefully, and write legibly to ensure we pick the items you want. The charge for the main order for all members is now 5, 7, or $10 US. Further information about all payment changes can be found in the Notes. The procedure and cost for surplus seed is detailed on the Surplus order form, centre page (iii). Distribution Distribution of seed starts in January, f rst for donors main orders, then for non-donors, and f nally for surplus seed applications. We expect main orders to be sent out by 25th January; surplus orders will not be selected or posted until that day, after all main orders have been fulf lled. Your main and surplus orders will therefore arrive some days or weeks apart. We urge US members to send all up-to-date paperwork with the request form see centre page (i) unless this was sent with your seed donation. Phytosanitary restrictions outwith European Union As before, US members should not choose any items marked with a black spot. All members outwith the EU are not allowed to be sent live material, which means bulbs, bulblets, corms, rice. Such items will be marked if the donor had made it clear. For their phytosanitary authorities, Australian, New Zealand and US members must write a separate list of items requested which must include the names, as they did last year. About the list Again the RHS Plant Finder 1 is my primary information source for avoiding duplicate entries under different names, and redirecting arrows are used to help those who still use an old name. Species not in the Plant Finder (there is a version on the internet) are checked with the IPNI website 2, and if not found there or by a wider search (googling) they are marked. Accuracy in naming cannot be certain, but plants should have been examined by the donors before collecting seed for the Exchange. It should be remembered that named varieties rarely come true, so ex must always be assumed. After the genus name the sequence is sp., donor s form descriptions, named varieties, then species; the same sequence is used after the species name: forms, varieties and subspecies. Some unknown species are offered as sp., and an entry spp. means that there is a mixture of species of that genus. The Seed List will soon appear on the website, and will be available for the season, so when your seed packets arrive labelled only with the current list number and you have unfortunately lost this listing, you can identify them in this way. Botanical families have again been added to the genera with a three-letter code, either the f rst three letters of the family name, or the code given in the Notes. Genera in the wild section not appearing in the garden section have also got their families identif ed. A few entries have been marked, which alerts you to the fact that a specif c mention is made in the Notes at the end of the listing. 1 RHS Plant Finder; Dorling Kindersley, London, Stuart Pawley
