2 WINTER Winter is very cold. What is white and falls from the sky? It makes you smile and put a twinkle in your eye? Draw a picture of you playing in the snow!

3 Snow Scene in a Jar Parental supervision is recommended with the use of the Epoxy glue and the Hot Glue Gun. What You Need: Empty small jar (like a baby food jar) Hot glue gun or Epoxy glue Small plastic toy animal (they have them in toy stores everywhere) White rocks, big pieces of gravel, plastic tree, etc. Glitter (some of the new iridescent ones are beautiful and available at hobby stores) Water Food coloring, if desired How To Make It: 1. Use hot glue gun to glue rocks and animal to the bottom of jar. 2. Fill with water and add food coloring if desired. 3. Spoon in some glitter and use epoxy glue to glue lid onto jar. 4. Shake to make it snow. You can cut out and make your own snowman using the pictures on the next page!

5 SPRING Here s a season that is so warm and makes us feel so nice. When springtime comes, it melts away the winter ice! Lots of plants begin to grow when Spring begins! Here is a neat experiment for you to try: Photosynthesis During this activity your child will learn about the four elements (soil, sun, water, seeds) necessary for plant growth. Materials: Poster board, colored markers, empty seed packet, (pictures of the type of seeds you are planting are great for later recognition of the plant), Styrofoam cup, potting soil, seeds, water, plastic wrap and a sunny window. Description: Discuss the four elements needed to grow a plant: Soil Contains nutrients Seeds Help the seed produce more plants Sun Provides warmth and food for the plants Water Sustains a plant s life Have your child help draw a sun in the upper corner of the poster board. Make sure there are plenty of rays extending down the poster. Draw in the soil (brown) on the bottom 1/5 of the poster. Starting on the left side, draw a black seed in the soil. Draw more seeds every few inches, but including some (green) "growth" in each until you have drawn a sprout. Extend a few of the yellow sun's rays all the way down from the sun to the sprout. Add water drops (blue) and a sprinkling can just above the sprout. Now color in the objects. Display the poster in a prominent place in your home. Next, use the cups and soil to plant seeds. Add a few tablespoons of water, and cover with plastic wrap. Set in a sunny window for a few days (keep warm at night). When the plants sprout, uncover. Review the steps each day to remind your child to water her plants.

6 Signs of Spring Discuss signs of Spring (including leaf buds, bulb shoots, birds collecting materials for nests, baby animals in the fields) Give your child a clipboard and colored pencil. On the clipboard have a page with pictures of 'Spring Signs' (collected from old magazines) Explain to your child that you are going for a walk to look for signs of Spring, and if they see any of the signs on their page they can mark it off. Draw a Rainbow in this box! Try taping three or four crayons together in a straight line. Now you can make a rainbow in one stroke!

7 Summer, Summer is so hot. We play all day, and then we stop. Summer is so much fun. See you later, gotta run! SUMMER Ice Cream In A Bag Ingredients: 1/2 cup milk 1 tablespoon sugar 3/4 tablespoon vanilla ice cubes 6 tablespoon salt 1 large freezer bag 1 small freezer bag Put milk, sugar and vanilla into the small bag. Close the bag. Put the ice into the large bag until the bag is half full. Add the salt to the ice. Put the small bag into the large bag, and seal the large bag. Shake the bags for five minutes. Put in freezer for a few minutes until thick like ice cream.

8 Here s a Catchy Summer Tune: Mr. Sun Oh mister sun, sun, Mister golden sun, Please shine down on me, Oh mister sun, sun, Mister golden sun, hiding behind the trees. These little children are asking you to please come out so we can play with you. Can you give this sun a face? How about some rays?

9 FALL The leaves are falling from the biggest trees. A jump in a pile right up to my knees! I see pumpkins everywhere I go. This must be Fall, don t you know! Leaf Rubbings Materials: White paper Brown, orange, yellow, and red crayons A few leaves that you find outside Instructions: 1. Place one of your leaves under the white paper. 2. Simply rub a crayon over top of the leaf. 3. What is happening? 4. Try this with all different shapes and sizes of leaves, using your different colored crayons! Nature Wreath This neat activity starts out as a nature walk and ends with and indoor craft activity. Materials: Leaves, acorns, pine cones Bow Brown paint Paper plates Description: Cut the center out of a paper plate and have the children paint the paper plate, brown. Next, go for a walk to find fall leaves, acorns and pine cones. When the plates are dry give the children glue and let them have fun. Away from your child, you could use a hot glue gun to glue any loose pieces and the bow.
