Please note the availability of listed plants can change with short notice due to loss or damage prior to delivery. The long winter means that some of these plants may not be ready by the date of the sale. Quantities are limited. There is no pre-ordering of plants. Plants are provided by Pinelands Nursery & Supply in Columbus, Fernbrook Nursery in Chesterfield, and New Moon Nursery in Bridgeton. Many thanks to them for their support of this event! HERBACEOUS PERENNIALS Scientific Name: Andropogon virginicus Common Name: Broomsedge Bluestem Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Common species of dry, open sites. Like Little Bluestem, but leafier and stouter flowers tucked inside bracts. 2'-5' high. Upland, dry sites. Semi-shade. Attracts birds and butterflies. Flowers mid-august to late September. Scientific Name: Aquilegia canadensis Common Name: Eastern Columbine Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Showy pink to red lantern-shaped flowers with long nectar spurs. 2'-3' tall. Tolerates dry soil but prefers medium moisture soils. Full sun to part shade. Great hummingbird attractor. Flowers April to May.

Great host plant for Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. Great for rain gardens and habitat. 2'-6' tall. Moist to wet soils; sun to part shade. Can thrive in mucky clay soils. Blooms June through October. Periphery Scientific Name: Asclepias tuberosa Common Name: Butterfly Milkweed Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: A tough drought-tolerant native with intense orange flowers May - September. Attracts many varieties of butterfly and is especially attractive to Monarchs. Occurs in dry fields and roadsides. Prefers full sun but can grow in part shade. Maximum height 12"-18". Pinching back the stems several times by mid-july will help control plant height, promote bushiness and relieve the need for staking. Attracts bees and butterflies. Somewhat drought tolerant. 3'-5' high. Scientific Name: Aster spectabilis Common Name: Showy Aster Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Bright violet daisy-like flowers. 1'-2' tall. Likes dry, sandy clearings and full sun. Drought tolerant. Attracts bees and butterflies. Flowers August to October. Scientific Name: Baptisia australis Common Name: Blue False Indigo Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: A robust, bushy perennial with blue-purple pea-like flowers. Of special value to native bumble bees. Turns silvery-grey in fall. 3'-6' tall. Flowers April through July. Prefers moist, well-drained soils and sun. Scientific Name: Caltha palustris Common Name: Yellow Marsh Marigold Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Bright yellow showy flowers atop glossy, succulent, heart-shaped leaves. Flower clusters resemble large buttercups. 1'-3' tall. Blooms April and May. Part shade to shade; moist to wet acidic soils. Grows in mud! Scientific Name: Carex pensylvanica Common Name: Pennsylvania Sedge Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: A low-growing, clumped, grass-like perennial. Leaves are pale green in spring and summer and turn to an attractive sandy-tan in fall. 6"-12" high; tends to fall over on itself as it gets taller, making a wispy undulating ground cover. One of the best ground cover plants in the Pine Barrens! Sun, part shade, shade; dry to moist soils.

Seeds provide food for goldfinches. 3'-4' tall with pink-purple flowers that bloom from June through September. Medium to dry soils; full sun to part shade. Scientific Name: Eupatorium coelestinum Common Name: Blue Mistflower Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Perennial with ornamental lavender flowers - nice border plant. Will also fill in as a ground cover. From 1' to 2' tall. Found in sandy coastal marshes and drier inland meadows. Flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies. Flowers appear from July to October. Grows best in full sun but will tolerate shade. Scientific Name: Eupatorium maculatum Common Name: Spotted Joe Pye Weed Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Dusty rose-colored flowers blooming for many weeks in July and August. Adds soft texture to a summer or fall garden. Dozens of species of butterfly flock to this plant! Likes full sun to part shade and moist soils. To 5' tall in good conditions; spreader. A dense spike of purple flowers appears July - September. Likes full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Grows best in moist, acidic sandy soil. Attractive to bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. Low maintenance plant that may be resistant to deer. Scientific Name: Lobelia cardinalis Common Name: Cardinal Flower Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Pretty herb of wetlands with striking, bright red flowers & toothed alternate leaves. Flowers May - October. Attracts hummingbirds. To 5' tall. Needs wet or moist soil and likes sun, partial shade or shade. Dense showy perennial with scarlet-red flowers reaching out from a central terminal cluster. Very attractive to hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. Leaves have a minty fragrance. 2'- 4' tall. Flowers May through October. Sun to part shade. Moist to wet soils. Scientific name: Monarda punctata Common Name: Spotted Beebalm; Horsemint Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Aromatic perennial with rosettes of pale yellowish, purple-spotted tubular flowers in terminal whorls. Large, showy white-purple bracts look like additional petals. Special value to bumble bees and honey bees. 1'-3' tall. Blooms April through August. Sun and dry, sandy soils. Tiny light pink-white flowers in clusters. Great for woodland borders. One of the best nectar sources for native butterflies. Attracts swarms of pollinators to your garden! 2'-3' tall. Flowers June-September. Moist to moderate well-drained soils. Sun to part shade. Deer resistant! Scientific Name: Rhexia virginica Common Name: Meadow Beauty, Handsome Harry Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Beautiful Pine Barrens perennial that naturally grows in wet soils and bogs. Four magenta to pale pink petals surround a cluster of elongated bright yellow stamen that dangle like a beard. To 2' tall, but usually up to 1' in height. Blooms in second year of growth, late July through September. Prefers wet, acidic, sandy soils and sun. Great for a bog garden. Native To: Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Rudbeckia hirta Common Name: Black-Eyed Susan Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Popular cheery yellow garden flower. Great for pollinator gardens attracts bees and butterflies. 2'- 3' tall, full sun to part shade. Flowers July to September. Medium to dry soils; drought tolerant. Scientific Name: Schizachyrium scoparium Common Name: Little Bluestem Container Size: Quart Price: $6 Description: Elegant bunchgrass of eastern U.S. Thrives on dry sites and poor soil. Colorful fall foliage. 2'-3' tall. Likes dry conditions. Sun to semi-shade. Flowers late July-October. Scientific Name: Scirpus cyperinus Common Name: Woolgrass Container Size: Quart Price: $6 Description: A member of the sedge family, a great plant for wet to moist soils with reddish-brown spikelets of wooly flowers. Tolerates a wide range of soils, prefers medium to wet soils. 4'-8' tall. Full sun to part shade. TREES / SHRUBS / VINES Scientific Name: Arctostaphylos uva-ursi Common Name: Bearberry Container Size: #1 Price: $10 Description: A very characteristic Pine Barrens creeping woody groundcover. Small evergreen leaves and white to pink blueberry-like flowers; fruit a red berry. Great groundcover for dry soils. 6"-12" tall, spreading up to 4'. Blooms April to May. Prefers well-drained, acidic, sandy soils and full sun to light shade. Native To: Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Aronia arbutifolia Common Name: Red Chokeberry Container Size: #1 2-3' Price: $12 Description: Multi-stemmed shrub with clusters of white to light pink flowers followed by abundant glossy red fruits. 6'-10' tall. Flowers in late April. Prefers well-drained, medium-moisture soils and can tolerate boggy soils. Full sun to part shade. Scientific Name: Aronia melanocarpa Common Name: Black Chokeberry Container Size: #1 2-3' Price: $12 Description: Shrub with smooth leaf surfaces. Found in forested wetlands and shrub bogs. White to pink flowers on smooth stalks develop into 1/4" black fruits. 5'-10' high. Can grow in wet or dry areas. Prefers partial shade. Flood tolerant.

Scientific Name: Ceanothus americanus Common Name: New Jersey Tea Container Size: # " Price: $10 Description: Compact deciduous shrub 3' to 4' tall and 3' to 5' wide. Blooms May to July with clusters of white flowers. Fragrant and attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Full sun to part shade, dry to moist soils, drought-tolerant. Best in sandy loams or rocky soils with good drainage. Dried leaves were used as a (caffeinefree) tea substitute in the American Revolutionary War! Native To: Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Clethra alnifolia Common Name: Sweet Pepperbush Container Size: # " Price: $10 Description: Medium size shrub of wetlands, swamps and sandy woods. Racemes of very fragrant, white flowers blossom July - August. 3'-8' or larger in moist soil. Prefers wet or moist acidic soil but can grow in dry soils. Sun, partial-shade, shade. Scientific Name: Cornus florida Common Name: Flowering Dogwood Container Size: #2 4-5' Price: $16 Description: One of the most charming and conspicuous small woodland trees. Tiny flowers are surrounded by showy, white, petal-like bracts. Bright red fall fruits attract migrating birds. 15'-30' tall. Blooms April to May. Medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers organically rich, acidic soils in part shade, but can do well in full sun.

Low shrub with bushy, branching stems. Small bright yellow flowers late May-early June. Common on dry, open sands. Likes well-drained sandy soil in a mostly sunny location. We recommend that you plant this in native Pine Barrens sandy soil in a sunny spot. They will require watering until they are established. These special Pinelands plants are of limited quantity and were grown and generously donated by a PPA member! Native To: Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Ilex glabra Common Name: Inkberry Holly Container Size: # " Price: $10 Description: Midsized evergreen, dioecious shrub of acidic soils. The only Ilex species to sucker. 6'-8' tall. Female plant makes shiny black berries. Semi-shade to shade. Prefers moisture but can tolerate dry conditions. Flowers mid-june to early July. Fruits mid-september to November. Scientific Name: Ilex verticillata Common Name: Winterberry Holly Container Size: #2 3-4' Price: $14 Description: Medium size, deciduous multi-stemmed, dioecious shrub of swamps & forested wetlands. Bright red berries that persist through fall & winter are wonderfully ornamental and good for wildlife food. Fruit mid- September to October. 6'-10' tall. Prefers wet conditions but can grow in dry conditions once established. Sun, partial shade and shade. Spiky gum balls drop in early spring. Scientific Name: Lonicera sempervirens Common Name: Trumpet Honeysuckle Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Slender, high-climbing vine with evergreen leaves. Flowers trumpet-shaped, red on the outside, yellow on the inside. A favorite among hummingbirds! Ornamental bright red berries in fall. Great for trelis or wall climbing. 3'-20' long. Blooms March through June. Sun to part shade; moist soils preferred.

Durable wood has been used for fence posts. Native To: Pine Barrens and Pine Barrens Periphery Scientific Name: Rosa carolina Common Name: Carolina Rose Container Size: #1 2-3' Price: $12 Description: Deciduous rose 1-3' tall (less frequently to 6') and spreading 5-10'. Blooms in spring to early summer with fragrant and attractive pink flowers with a yellow center. Attracts birds and butterflies! Best grown in medium to wet, well-drained soil in full sun.
