Tree is very cold hardy. This vigorous grower ripens in early September and stores well. Well known for its showy white blooms in spring followed by brilliant crimson fruit. Resistant to fireblight. Developed at the Morden Research Station in RESCUE APPLECRAB Malus x Rescue Blushed Calville OP Yellow, red stripes 3-4 cm Small fruit is very sweet for eating fresh and good for canning. Ripens in late August. The tree is very productive. Developed at the research station in Scott, Saskatchewan in Rescue Applecrab Dwarf Odyssey Apple Malus - Dwarf Apple Gemini Goodland Norkent Odyssey Prairie Magic These prairie apple cultivars are grown on Bud 9 dwarfing rootstock. Mature plants will be approximately 50% smaller in size than apple trees growing on standard rootstock. Fruit production on dwarfing rootstock can be up to 2 years earlier than apple trees on a standard rootstock. Prunus - Apricot Due to their early bloom time, apricot blossoms are susceptible to spring frost damage. Planting apricot trees in a site with limited afternoon heating (e.g. east side of an evergreen shelterbelt) will postpone flowering and increase the probability of fruit set. Manchurian Apricot WESTCOT APRICOT Prunus x Westcot Scout x McClure Golden yellow cm This prairie cultivar has hardy flower buds and produces large, golden, freestone fruit. Excellent for eating fresh or canning. Introduced by Morden Research Station in POLLINATION REQUIRED All fruit tree and small fruit varieties that require a different pollinizer cultivar have been marked with this symbol. Cross pollination refers to the transfer of pollen between flowers of genetically-distinct plants. Pollinators, usually insects, are vectors for pollen movement For apples and pears, two different cultivars must be growing in close proximity for success- ful fruit production. Plums and apricots have strong preferences for certain pollinizers. Pure wild plums or the cultivar Toka are the best pollinizers for hybrid plums. 52

An excellent pollinizer that produces medium sized, rich flavored fruit. Fruit ripens in late-august. Early Gold Pear EARLY GOLD PEAR Pyrus - Pear Pyrus x Jefgold Seedling of Ure Golden 5 cm A seedling of Ure with improved vigour, chlorosis resistance and cold hardiness. The fruit makes wonderful jelly or can be eaten out of hand. Prairie soils can be amended with peat to lower ph, but poorly-drained soils should be avoided.
