Both remain in good supply with very aggressive pricing and promotable volume available. Real Foods - Athens, WI: Organic heirloom cherry tomatoes and russdaviswholesale.com crazyfreshproduce.com
Brussels Sprouts: Sprouts will see a slight adjustment down in price next week. Sprouts remain new crop domestic. Cabbage: Local green cabbage started light shipping. Supplies are projected to improve this week. Local red cabbage is projected to start next week. Cauliflower: Cauliflower as a whole is in good supply for next week with markets remaining unchanged. However, Dole is reporting light supply and is applying pro rates to our orders. As a result, we will have to source an alternative label to cover their shortage. Market price remains low and promotable across the board. Celery: Celery will remain unchanged in market price for next week. Supply and demand are steady and equal. Wisconsin celery will get started in a light way next week. Cucumbers: Local cucumbers started light shipping. Supplies are projected to improve this week. Eggplant: Local eggplant is projected to start the week of July 25th. Green Beans: Local green beans are currently shipping. Market price remains very high and is projected to decline slightly as supply improves. Green Bell Peppers: We will load in California with high markets until local Green Peppers start. Local is projected to start the first week of August. Local green peppers are projected to start August 1st week. Hard Shell Squash: Georgia is shipping and North Carolina is projected to start soon. Market prices are projected to remain higher. Local yellow squash are currently shipping. Market prices will remain steady. HOT HOUSE: Colored Peppers: Seem to be getting back on track after the weather shut them down. Beef Tomatoes: Good quality and a great time to promote. TOV: Good quality and great time to promote. duction with many shippers scrambling to fill orders. This week production seems to be back to normal. Iceberg Lettuce: Iceburg will increase in price for next week. Markets are getting active on iceberg, with FOB prices drawing a much broader range than normal. Some shippers are running into supply issues, whereas others have healthy numbers. Iceberg is expected to trend upward through the remainder of July. Onions: The yellow onion market continues to be very strong. Supplies of medium and jumbo-size yellow onions have started to balance out, leading to price increases on the larger-sized onions. Pricing on medium-sized onions is steady and demand is good. There is no immediate relief in pricing, as additional supplies are not arriving to the market until mid-to-late-august. September will be a great time to start planning retail ads as storage variety onions will be shipped from all growing areas. Pricing is expected to fall considerably come September. Peas: Sugar snap peas are currently shipping and in stock. Market price is steady. POTATOES: Russets: Every major growing and shipping region are finishing their supplies of storage crop russet potatoes. This lines up perfectly with the influx of new crop russet potatoes that are coming to market within the next few weeks. Expect to see new crop WI russets the end of July! Reds: The overall red potato market remains steady. We are currently sourcing new crop California potatoes with new Crop Red B s from WI expected to start around 7/20. We will see Minnesota reds the last week of July, weather permitting. Golds: New crop gold potatoes are available from growers in Florida, California, North Carolina, Washington, Kansas and our are newly available from growers in Illinois. This is a huge contrast to last month when the only new crop of yellow potatoes available was from growers in California. This increased availability is expected to lower prices. Red/Yellow Choice Peppers: Coachella has very limited supplies. Fresno has started shipping in a light way, but still not enough volume to bring the markets down. Expect the markets to remain Hydro Cukes: Last week brought an unexpected drop in prorussdaviswholesale.com crazyfreshproduce.com 2
high until more volume is available in the next couple of weeks. Romaine Lettuce: Romaine hearts will be unchanged next week, holding much higher than normal with light supply due to overall demand. 24ct romaine will see a price drop next week, as supply is starting to make a recovery. Salad Supplies: All salads have great supplies with the exception being the chopped romaine items and romaine leaves. Organic Romaine Hearts: Steady supplies. Sweet Corn: Local sweet corn started light shipping. Supplies are projected to improve this week. Sweet Onions: We will continue to source Georgia Vidalia Sweet onions for the next 2 weeks as quality has been very strong. We will move to New Crop California panoche sweets the end of the month. Zucchini: Local zucchini is currently shipping. Market prices will remain steady. VALUE ADDED DOLE: Iceberg: Good overall quality. Romaine: Product quality is good. Leaf Lettuce: Good volume and good quality. Cabbage: Green quality is OK. Red supplies are OK. Tenderleaf: Tighter due to weather, but still supplying our demand. Spinach has good supply and good quality. Spring Mix has an abundance of supply, and quality is good. MANN: Slaw production delays should be better this week as we produced an extra shift on Sunday 7/10 to get caught up. Technical issues are being addressed and should be resolved over the next few weeks. Brussels Sprouts: Trimmed Brussels sprouts continue to be short. Supplies are hit and miss due to quality issues and sizing. Beans: French and Wax beans supplies continue to be inconsistent due to quality issue from the extreme heat in Baja Mexico. EBF: FRUIT Avocados: We are now into new crop Mexican avos. They are peaking on 60 and 70 size, and the larger fruit will be very limited and very expensive for the foreseeable future. Pricing will remain higher on the 60ct, but we will see a gradual decrease as we go through the month of July. Blackberries: Prices are stable on Guatemalan imports. Quality on the Guatemalan product has been very nice. Georgia has finished production. California and Oregon continue producing, but prices are higher than imports. Overall quality should be very nice. Blueberries: Georgia and North Carolina have finished production. New Jersey supplies have started to decrease and will end this week. Oregon/Washington have also started to decrease production. BC has ramped up and will be in excellent production for the next 2 weeks. Michigan production has started with prices slightly higher than the Pacific Northwest. Cantaloupe: All growers are finished in Arizona, and the transition to the west side melon producing areas is complete. Quality has been excellent with the market stable. Cherries (Washington): Some cherry shippers will be out and done with cherries this weekend. We will have cherries throughout the month and hopefully into the first part of August. We are now russdaviswholesale.com crazyfreshproduce.com 3
out and done with Rainier cherries for the season. Montana has been nailed with rain, and we are waiting on reports as to the extent of the damage. Dragon Fruit: Florida should get going soon. Grapes: California seems to be hitting on all cylinders producing. Green grape production is still light compared to the reds. This is due to the high heat they have experienced. So far, the reds have been very nice color. Honeydew: 8ct production is light. 5 s and 6 s are prodiment sizes. Quality has been good. Kiss Melons: Will start to transition to the California growing areas. Sizing will increase as they move there. Limes: Currently the limes are loading out of Vera Cruz and Jalisco, Mexico. The limo market is finally back to normal levels. Look for ad opportunities at the end of July. Mangoes: We will continue to see weak pricing on Mexican mangoes through the end of the month. Don t forget about the Mango Mania promotion. There s sporadic availability on Francine Haitian mangoes. Navels: We will be into new crop import navels on 7/16. PAPAYA: Solo: Availability keeps improving. Hopefully we will see the bigger sizes that we prefer soon. Maradol: Very good availability! Rambutan: Available! Raspberries: Overall quality is good with average seasonal supplies. Watsonville is the largest production area with Oxnard done and Santa Maria volume very light. Supplies will be light and quality is consistent. Markets will remain strong. Star Fruit: We will see limited supplies until around mid-july when better availability will happen. STONE FRUIT: Apricots: Washington is up and running. Quality and production is good. Nectarines: Fruit has been excellent quality. Good time to promote. Peaches: Washington and California are both going. Quality has been good out of all areas. Colorado will be starting to pack the end of July and should be ready to hit store shelves at the beginning of August. Strawberries: California fruit volume is peak of the season. Demand is still soft due to the local markets and pick your own producing. Promotional prices for great quality from all areas. Supplies and prices should be stable. WATERMELON: Georgia will finish shipping next week. Texas is shipping again with limited availability. Missouri has also started shipping in a light way. Indiana will start the week of July 18th. Indiana will be large melons at first, and we won t see 60ct until the end of the month. Indiana usually goes through the month of August as long as the weather hold favorable. Indiana growing conditions have been favorable up to this point. Mini-Seedless Watermelon: We are loading in Georgia and Kentucky. Supplies will be limited until Indiana starts shipping next week. ORGANIC New Items: Local Eggplant Near Future - Organic undipped kent mangoes from Baja Mexica will be here in two and a half weeks. They are the best mangoes ever. Hopefully you remember them from last year. Look in your price guide this week for the booking sheet! Organic Arugula: Harmony Valley lost a planting due to purslane taking over the field. There will be more ready for harvest next week. russdaviswholesale.com crazyfreshproduce.com 4
Organic Blueberries: Northwestern blueberries are slowing down a bit. Packers are going back to more 6oz ers instead of pints. And remember that we will have local Wisconsin blueberries from Hill and Valley here this weekend. They are some of the best blueberries you will ever taste and are very limited. First come, first served on orders! Get them in now! Organic Cucumbers: After Thursday, we will only have locally grown cucumbers. Organic Jalapeño: We are out of jalapeño until the end of the month when local starts up. Organic Potatoes: We are just down to local russet potatoes for just a few weeks yet. Organic Spinach: Bunch spinach will be very hit or miss for the next couple of months.
