3 Cieneral Information Help slow the spread of EAB. Know the signs and symptoms of EAB and most importantly, burn firewood where you get it. 1. What is emerald ash borer (EAB)? EAB is an exotic, invasive, wood-boring beetle that infests and kills ash trees in forests and urban areas. 7. Where is EAB now? Visit eab mjssourj edy to view a current map of Missouri counties. 2 T i.i(\erald I _;_ ii':!!!j... "' 1 ~ Don't spread pests. ~ '..a ( Burn firewood where you get itl /. Biological control is the use of natural enem ies to control non-native pests. Nonnative pests can be very destructive when introduced to new areas because the predators, parasitoids, and low. Woodpeckers and other bark-foraging birds can consume a significant portion of EABs, but not enough to prevent tree mortality. Why is biological control emphasized for managing EAB infestations? Biological control is currently the only management option that can be appl ied at the forest

4 Missouri Dept. of Conservation July 28 WALNUT WOOD WARNING! Ever heard of thousand cankers disease, or TCD? It's the name of a deadly beetle/fungus combo that could kill Missouri's valuable walnut trees. This picture shows trees in Tennessee with symptoms of TCD. The disease has not been detected in Missouri, but MDC staff are on the lookout and need your help. Don't move untreated walnut wood from areas where TCD has been found, and be sure to report walnut trees with possible symptoms. 15 Thousand cankers disease (TCD) is fatal to black walnut trees. It's caused by the walnut twig beetle and an associated fungus. The name 'thousand cankers' is due to the numerous cankers surrounding multiple beetle entry points on branches and main stems. The twig beetle is the size of the letter "i" on a dime. Don't move walnut trees or untreated walnut wood into Missouri Don't move firewood Investigate possible TCD infections

16 Forest insects and diseases kill thousands of trees every day. Prevention is the key.
