6 Name Strawberries On each strawberry, there are about 200 seeds. Did you know that strawberries are a super food? In addition to strawberries being super delicious, they are also one of the healthiest fruits you can eat. Strawberries are full of vitamin C and other vitamins and nutrients. Plus strawberries are the top rated fruit among kids. Strawberry farmers first use a tractor to prepare the soil. They make rows and beds for the plants. These beds are then covered with plastic so weeds won t grow around the strawberry plants. Next, small strawberry plants that were grown in a nursery are planted in holes in the plastic where they will continue to grow for three months. The plant will grow flowers and each flower will turn into a small green strawberry. As each strawberry continues to grow, it will turn white, then red. When ripe, strawberries are bright red, juicy and very sweet. Strawberries are picked, sorted and packed in the field by hand. Strawberries are hand-picked because each fruit ripens at a different time. Within one day after harvest, fresh strawberries are loaded on refrigerated trucks for delivery across the county.
