1 2012 TREE SALE - ORDER FORM PICK-UP DATE: April 13, 2012 TIME: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. LOCATION: Fulton Co. Fairgrounds 4-H Bldg. A check made payable to the Fulton County Conservation District must accompany all orders. Add 6% sales tax, unless you have a sales tax exemption form on file with the District. Deadline for all orders is March 9, Pick-up will be on Friday, April 13th at the Fulton County Fairgrounds 4-H Building. The Conservation District will not be responsible for orders picked up after April 13th, unless previous arrangements have been made. No refunds will be given for unclaimed orders. You will receive a sales receipt with an itemized list of your order and pick-up information as a reminder. Please take a moment to review your sales receipt. Profits from the tree sale are used to support environmental education efforts within Fulton County. All plant material is bare root, and therefore, we cannot guarantee survival once you take possession. Please choose your selections and mail the order form back to the Conservation District with your check or money order for the full amount. 4 PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS APPLES: Liberty Freedom Goldrush Williams Pride Enterprise The following are semi-dwarf on EMLA 111 rootstock. Trees are 5/8-3/4 diameter bare root. NOTE: All apples should be cross-pollinated with another apple or crabapple variety that blooms at a similar time. Early bloomer. Disease resistant. Crisp, juicy, light yellow flesh. Sprightly flavor. No spraying needed. Mid-season bloomer. Resistant to fire blight, mildew, cedar apple rust, scab and other diseases. Medium to large, round, bright red fruits. Crisp, juicy, medium coarse flesh. Good quality apple for fresh eating, cider and cooking. Late-season bloomer. Golden Delicious hybrid. Excellent in texture and storage ability. Flavor good, somewhat acid, complex spicy mixture with high degree of sugar. Field immunity to apple scab, moderate immunity to fire blight. Early bloomer. Disease resistant. Yellow fleshed fruit with mildly sub-acid flavor. (EMLA 7A rootstock) Newer, disease resistant variety. Glossy red fruit. Ripens late October. Skin thick and tough-while good for fresh eating, perhaps best as cooking apples where its tart flavor can be used to advantage. PEACHES: Elberta Glohaven Raritan Rose 5 branched bare root, 5/8-3/4 diameter. Most popular variety in America. Large, yellow fruit with a crimson blush. Juicy, yellow, freestone flesh. Self-fruitful tree, but also an excellent pollenizer. Large, almost round, uniform fruit with yellow flesh. Excellent quality. Vigorous tree. Excellent quality white fleshed peach. Fruit large, round, freestone. Tree vigorous and bud hardy. SOUR CHERRY: 5 bare root, -5/8-3/4 diameter. Jubileum Early maturing. Dark red tart cherry. Produces large fruit with good keeping qualities. SWEET CHERRY: 5 bare root 5/8-3/4 diameter. Black Gold Dark red cherry. Late blooming. Fruit with good size. White Gold Large fruit with red blush over yellow skin with reddish yellow flesh. Produces consistent, heavy crops. Resistant to cracking and bacterial canker. Extremely hardy. Stella Large, heart-shaped, dark red fruit. Sweet juicy flesh. Rich flavor. Ideal for home orchard. Self-fertile and fine pollinator for other varieties. PEARS: Seckel Magness Bartlett 5 bare root, 5/8-3/4 diameter. NOTE: For good pollination, need more than one variety of pear. Also known as sugar pear. Small pear, but one of best quality desert pears. Tree vigorous, hardy, and productive. Self-fertile but benefits from cross pollination. Medium sized pear. Flesh soft and juicy. Flavor sweet. Vigorous, spreading tree. Very resistant to fire blight. Large, golden yellow fruit blushed with brownish red. Smooth, juicy, white flesh. Needs a pollinator. Susceptible to fire blight. ASIAN PEARS: 20th Century Hosui 5 bare root, 5/8-3/4 diameter. NOTE: For good pollination, need more than one variety of Asian pear. Good flavor, keeps well. Round, yellow skinned variety. Easy to grow, heavy bearing small tree. Solid russet. Ripens late August. Fruit mildly flavored, sweet and juicy. Tree vigorous and spreading. PLUM: Stanley 5 bare root, 5/8-3/4 diameter. Medium to large, oval, dark blue fruit with a thick bloom. Sweet, rich flavor. Self fertile but yields more when pollinated with another variety. GRAPES: Himrod Reliance Concord 2-year, #1 plants. White seedless. Large, long, loose clusters. Golden yellow fruit. Sweet, delicious, juicy flesh. Hardiest white seedless. Red seedless. Large, well filled clusters. Outstanding, mild, fruity flavor. Perhaps the finest quality of any seedless grape. Excellent, distinctive flavor. Seedless variety. Slightly smaller clusters and berries than regular Concord. Better and sweeter table grape. Highly regarded as a pie grape. RHUBARB: Crimson Red 1-year, #1 plant. Considered one of best tasting - sweet, yet agreeably tart. Ample yields of plump, crimson red stalks that are tender and never stringy. Winter hardy. 4

Medium-large light blue fruit is firm, crack resistant, with good sub-acid flavor. Very hardy. Blueray Vigorous, slender, multi-caned, very productive. Large fruit, very sweet, slightly tart, aromatic flavor. Herbert Vigorous, open-spreading, consistently productive. Berry large very large. Flavor very good, aromatic. Patriot Early variety. Heavy producer. Very large, medium blue flat fruit with excellent flavor. Low growing spreading bush to 4. Duke Medium sized, mild flavor, good quality. Vigorous, very productive, consistently high yields. Upright, 4-6 bush. ASPARAGUS: Jersey Knight NUT TREES: English Walnut Am. Hazelnut Male plants (no energy goes to seed production). Vigorous growth. Produces heavy yields of large spears. Will out produce older varieties. Handsome, hardy rounded shade tree that produces delicious edible nuts. Produces nuts quicker than other walnuts. Nuts meaty, thin shelled. Self-pollinating but produces better in groups of two to three. Does not do well in wet areas! (aka, American Filbert) Medium-fast growth rate. Multi-stemmed small tree growing feet in height. Edible nuts for people or wildlife. TREE SEEDLINGS: Am. Red Pine Good growth rate, pyramidal pine. Hardy pine that can grow on ordinary to poor soils. Good as ornamental or as screen or windbreak. White Pine Fast growing. Can tolerate dry rocky soil as well as wet, swampy areas. Ideal for specimen planting, shade, windbreaks and Christmas trees. Can tolerate some shade. Douglas Fir Grows best in moist, well-drained soil. Rapid growth, can stand partial shade. Beautiful Christmas tree or in windbreaks. Red Oak Grows best in sandy to rich loamy soil in full sun, but tolerates wide range of conditions. Fastest growing of all oaks. Valuable timber tree. Prefers full sun. Pitch x Loblolly Fast growing pine. Cross between loblolly and pitch pines. Full sun. Northern Also known as candleberry. Lustrous, deep green foliage is semi-evergreen. Native ornamental shrub growing 5-12 in Bayberry height and spread. Good shrub for ornamental and conservation use. Noted for waxy-gray berries. Grows in poor, sandy soil. Sycamore Massive shade tree growing tall with wide, spreading crown. Bark peels in thin, irregular patches giving a camouflage look. Likes moist soils and does well along streams. Norway Spruce Thrives well in average soil conditions, but prefers some moisture. Excellent for shelters and windbreaks. Fast growth. Spreading branches with drooping twigs. Full sun to partial shade. Blue Spruce These are bed run, so color ranges from greens to blues. Color in Blue Spruce influenced by spacing and soil fertility. White Oak PA native oak. Grows in height. Grows best in deep, loamy, well-drained soil. Black Willow Wetland plant. Native swamp willow that is good for stream bank stabilization. Vigorous growth to 35. White Spruce Long lived, but relatively slow growing, can reach 60 tall. Excellent for windbreaks and shelterbelts. Dense pyramidal growth and retains lower branches. Does well in full sun, but will tolerate some shade. Can endure heat and drought. Resistant to deer browsing. Arrowwood Height 6-8, spread Multi-stemmed, dense, rounded shrub. Adaptable to most soil conditions, but prefers well-drained. Viburnum Suckers freely. Good wildlife value. Am. Redbud Height Small tree with rounded crown, beautiful pink to purplish flowers in April. Likes moist, well drained soils. Full sun to light shade. Pin Oak Native tree with fast growth to 75 in good soil. Acorns good wildlife food. Will tolerate wet soil but prefers moist, rich, acidic, well-drained soil. Nice ornamental oak. Black Locust Native hardwood growing to 75. Open green foliage with pea like white flowers in June. Tolerates poor, sterile and dry soils. Nitrogen fixer. Good firewood and used for fence posts. American Hardy native shrub that grows 6-12 high and can spread to 10. Green foliage with numerous large clusters of white flowers Elderberry in June/July followed by purplish-black edible fruits in August and September. Important food source for birds. Grow well in full and partial sun. Good choice for riparian buffers. LANDSCAPING TREES: Douglas Fir See description above. Eastern Hemlock Graceful pyramidal form. Likes moist, organic, well-drained soil and tolerates shade well. Can stand shearing and moderate pruning and thus makes a good hedge. Makes a handsome, graceful, ornamental planting.
