James Research and Extension Center, Plymouth, NC Corn Hybrids for North Carolina Ron Heiniger Cropping Systems Specialist North Carolina State University WARNING: This list of hybrids is based on information from field trials, official variety testing data, county variety tests, and other field observations. As such it represents the best information available. However, this is not a comprehensive list. There are several companies that do not enter hybrids in the county or official variety tests. The hybrids offered by these companies may have characteristics that are as good or better than the listing below. The grower should evaluate these hybrids by comparing the literature offered by the company to the information given below. Early Maturing Hybrids 110 day Relative Maturity or Less Pioneer 34B94 (Bt) 110 day RM Pioneer s best early maturing hybrid Good standability and average early season vigor Yields above average in good environments (Field yielding on average 130 to 180 bu/acre) Recommendation: Use this hybrid on your better organic soils. Does well when field conditions are good. Excellent hybrid under irrigation. Yields well consistently. Not the best hybrid for droughty soils. Pioneer 34A14 (RR2) 109 day RM Good standability and average early season vigor Yields above average in medium to good environments (Field yielding on average 100 to 180 bu/acre) Recommendation: Excellent hybrid for a wide range of soil conditions.
