Quantities are limited. There is no pre-ordering of plants. Plants are provided by Pinelands Nursery & Supply in Columbus, Earth First Native in Egg Harbor and Fernbrook Nursery in Bordentown. Many thanks to them for their support of this event! HERBACEOUS PERENNIALS Scientific Name: Andropogon virginicus Common Name: Broomsedge Bluestem Container Size: Quart Price: $5.00 Description: Common species of dry, open sites. Like Little Bluestem, but leafier and stouter flowers tucked inside bracts. 2'-5' high. Upland, dry sites. Semi-shade. Attracts birds and butterflies. Flowers mid-august to late September. and Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Asclepias incarnata Common Name: Swamp Milkweed Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Large blossoms of small, fragrant, upturned rose-purple flowers. Great host plant for Monarch butterflies and hummingbirds. Great for rain gardens and habitat. 2'-6' tall. Moist to wet soils; sun to part shade. Can thrive in mucky clay soils. Blooms June through October. and Pine Barrens Periphery Scientific Name: Asclepias tuberosa Common Name: Butterfly Milkweed Container Size: Price: $5.00 Description: A tough drought-tolerant native with intense orange flowers May - September. Attracts many varieties of butterfly and is especially attractive to Monarchs. Occurs in dry fields and roadsides. Prefers full sun but can grow in part shade. Maximum height 12"-18". Moist to dry soils.

Up to 2 tall, grows well in sun to part shade and medium to dry soils. Scientific Name: Doellingeria umbellata Common Name: Flat-topped Aster Container Size: Price: $5.00 Description: Perennial aster, 2-5 tall that prefers slightly acidic soils. Blooms in late summer to fall. Full to part sun and wet to moist soils. Scientific Name: Echinacea purpurea Common Name: Purple Coneflower Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: The popular butterfly magnet. Seeds provide food for goldfinches. 3'-4' tall with pink-purple flowers that bloom from June through September. Medium to dry soils; full sun to part shade. Scientific Name: Eupatorium coelestinum Common Name: Blue Mistflower Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Perennial with ornamental lavender flowers - nice border plant. Will also fill in as a ground cover. From 1' to 2' tall. Found in sandy coastal marshes and drier inland meadows. Flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies. Flowers appear from July to October. Grows best in full sun but will tolerate shade. Scientific Name: Eupatorium maculatum Common Name: Spotted Joe-Pye Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Perennial with pink flowers that bloom from August to October. Grows from 4' to 6' tall. Found in wet meadows. Flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies. Grows best in partial shade. Scientific Name: Eupatorium perfoliatum Common Name: Boneset Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: White-flowered perennial good for wet to medium soils. Found naturally along streams and at woodland edges. 3'-4' tall, blooms July-September. Full sun to part shade. Scientific Name: Euthamia graminifolia Common Name: Flat-top Goldenrod Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Blooms in late summer with a flat cluster on yellow flowers sitting on top of this herbaceous perennial. Preferes full sun and moist soil but can tolerate drought conditions. Up to 3 tall and less suseptible to powdery mildew than some other species of golden rods. Scientific Name: Heliopsis helianthoides Common Name: Smooth Oxeye Container Size: Quart Price: $6.00 Description: Adaptable perennial of dry open sites. Showy golden flowers in summer. From 3'-4' tall. Likes sandy soil. Needs full sun and can tolerate moist to dry conditions.

From 2' to 3' tall. Grows in medium to wet soils in full sun to partial shade. Can grow in 2"-4" in shallow standing water. Does best in full sun and moist, rich soils. Will spread by self-seeding and extension of rhizomes. Scientific Name: Liatris spicata Common Name: Dense Blazing Star Container Size: 2 Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Slender, erect perennial that reaches a height of 3'-4'. A dense spike of purple flowers appears July - September. Likes full sun but can tolerate partial shade. Grows best in moist, acidic sandy soil. Attractive to bees, hummingbirds and butterflies. Low maintenance plant that may be resistant to deer. Scientific Name: Lobelia cardinalis Common Name: Cardinal Flower Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Herb of wetlands with striking, bright red flowers & toothed alternate leaves. Flowers May - October. Attracts hummingbirds. To 5' tall. Needs wet or moist soil and likes sun, partial shade or shade. Scientific Name: Lobelia siphilitica Common Name: Great Blue Lobelia Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Like Cardinal Flower but with spikes of blue flowers. 2'-4' tall, flowers July to September. Prefers wet soils but will tolerate medium moisture. Likes some shade but will tolerate full sun if soil is wet. Scientific name: Monarda fistulosa Common Name: Wild Bergamot Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: A square stemmed perennial with rosettes of red flowers in terminal whorls. Special value to bumble bees and honey bees. 2'-3' tall. Blooms during summer months for 6 weeks. Prefers wet meadows and moist open woods. Scientific name: Monarda punctata Common Name: Spotted Beebalm; Horsemint Container Size: 2" Plug Price: $2.50 Description: Aromatic perennial with rosettes of pale yellowish, purple-spotted tubular flowers in terminal whorls. Large, showy white-purple bracts look like additional petals. Special value to bumble bees and honey bees. 1'-3' tall. Blooms April through August. Nitrogen fixer that is tolerant of inundation. Grows well in full sun and shade. Leaves are evergreen and this species is tolerant of salt spray. 6 tall, 4 wide and does well from full sun to shade. Produces white flowers in spring and red berries later in the year.. Blooms May to July with clusters of white flowers. Fragrant and attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Full sun to part shade, dry to moist soils, drought-tolerant. Best in sandy loams or rocky soils with good drainage. Dried leaves were used as a (caffeinefree) tea substitute in the American Revolutionary War! and Pine Barrens Periphery Scientific Name: Cephalanthus occidentalis Common Name: Buttonbush Container Size: #1 6-24" Price: $10 Description: Medium-sized shrub often growing in 1 foot or more of water. Flowers early June to late August. Small white flowers cluster together forming large button-like ornaments. 3' to 6', can reach 15'. Grows best in partial shade; can grow in full shade. Scientific Name: Clethra alnifolia Common Name: Sweet Pepperbush Container Size: # Price: $10 Description: Medium size shrub of wetlands, swamps and sandy woods. Racemes of very fragrant, white flowers blossom July - August. 3'-8' or larger in moist soil. Prefers wet or moist acidic soil but can grow in dry soils. Tiny flowers are surrounded by showy, white, petal-like bracts. Bright red fall fruits attract migrating birds. 15'-30' tall. Blooms April to May. Medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers organically rich, acidic soils in part shade, but can do well in full sun. Produces yellow flowers April- June and edible fruit in the fall. Many insects visit the flowers and many species of wildlife feed on the fruit. The only Ilex species to sucker. 6'-8' tall. Female plant makes shiny black berries. Semi-shade to shade. Prefers moisture but can tolerate dry conditions. Flowers mid-june to early July. Fruits mid-september to November. and Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Ilex opaca Common Name: American Holly Container Size: # Price: $ Description: Slow growing dioecious evergreen tree of acid soils. Small white flowers in late spring, red fruit maturing in fall (on female plants) and lasting into winter. Prefers moist well drained soil and a non-windy location (leaves tend to pale in windy conditions). 40'-50' tall. Fruit October to November. Shade tolerant but does well in direct sun. and Pine Barrens Scientific Name: Ilex verticillata Common Name: Winterberry Holly Container Size: # Price: $10 Description: Medium size, deciduous multi-stemmed, dioecious shrub of swamps & forested wetlands. Bright red berries that persist through fall & winter are wonderfully ornamental and good for wildlife food. Fruit mid- September to October. 6'-10' tall.
