1 Monthly Report for April 2011 Japan arthquake Disaster On March 11, 2011 a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit northern Japan, followed quickly thereafter by a deadly tsunami. It s believed that over 20,000 people perished in the disaster. As a result, industrial production fell by approximately 15% in April. The damaged nuclear plant problem continues to be a challenge, though almost all radioactive emissions appear to be contained.
