The wine spends 14 months in French oak and has a palate of strawberries, black pepper, coffee and hazelnuts, and a long and superb finish. Enzo Bianchi 14.5% Vol Oak-aged for 21 months, with a deep colour and perfumes of cassis and plums and a hint of black pepper, this has an excellent finish with flavours of cherry. Made with Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. YBS Eral Bravo 14.5% Vol Less than 1000 bottles are produced of this fine red wine, which spends 16 months in selected French barrels and has a beautiful balance of blackberries, sweet strawberries and a touch of tabacco. Made with Cabernet Sauvignon 15%, Malbec 64%, Shiraz 21%. Fabre Montmayou Gran Vin 14.5% A deep red wine made from grapes grown on some of Mendoza s oldest vines, this mightily elegant mainly Malbec combines an explosion of cherries and plums with a long smooth finish and goes well with steak and chocolate desserts. 85% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot. Firmado (from Enrique Foster) 14.5% Vol Made only with Malbec grapes, hand-harvested from old Mendoza vineyards at 900m and 1060m above sea level, this wine is 15 months in new oak barrels and no less than 12 months in the bottle gives it a deep red colour and a complex nose of red fruits. Only 1800 bottles produced. Quality Reds Finca las Moras Cabernet Sauvignon 14% Vol This 100% Cabernet is deep red in colour, with aromas of green peppers, red fruits and chocolate. Finca las Moras Malbec 14.5% Vol A pure, 100% Malbec, with a deep violet colour and notes of ripe plum, roasted coffee, vanilla and chocolate. Pascual Toso Malbec 14% Vol From one of Argentina s oldest wineries, this 100% Malbec has notes of ripe red fruits, black pepper and violets, helped by its 12 months spent in American and French oak barrels.

4 Quality Reds Doña Paula Estate Malbec 14% Vol From Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza, this is an excellent Malbec which goes with any type of food and has a deep clean, violet colour and a character that combines raspberry and cassis with floral and spicy notes. Amauta (The wise man) 14.5% Vol Only 14,400 bottles are produced each year of this wine, which is made with grapes grown at 5740ft above sea level. Malbec 60%, Cabernet 30%, Syrah 10%. Amalaya Grand Corte 14% Vol Made with 85% Malbec, 7.5% Cabernet Franc and 7.5% Bonarda grapes, this wine is intensely rich and dark in colour and has aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries and well-rounded spice. Humberto Canale Pinot Noir Reserva 14% Vol The Canale family vineyard is situated in Rio Negro, Patagonia and is one of the most southerly in the world. This 100% Pinot Noir is a mature wine, intense and elegant, rich in taste and flavour with complex, fruity and spicy aromas. In the mouth it is medium-bodied, velvety and smooth, with flavours of vanilla, tobacco and walnuts. Fabre Montmayou Malbec Gran Reservado Hervé Fabre bought his ancient Malbec vineyards long before the grape became as popular as it is now, and he has never looked back. This smooth-as-silk dark red 100% Malbec, crammed full of spice and rich damson fruits, is a fantastic example of Argentinian Malbec as its best. Unanime 14.5% Vol Made with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec & 15% Cabernet Franc grapes, all from the Uco Valley in Mendoza, this wine won a global award in 2012 and it s easy to see why. Deep cherry-red in colour, it has aromas of tobacco, chocolate and a touch of black pepper. Las Moras Gran Shiraz 3 Valleys 14.5% Vol From San Juan de Cuyo, this is a blend of hand-picked 100% Syrah grapes from 3 valleys at 2132 feet, 3116 feet and 4429 feet. Deep red/purple in colour with notes of red fruit and chocolate and a full bodied finish. Eighteen months in French oak add complexity and style to this superb blend.

Fabre Montmayou Assemblage 125cl cl cl ml Carafe Bottle % Vol. Fabre is one of Argentina s top wine producers, and this is one of his best entry-level wines, a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that can match some of the best Bordeaux reds at this price. Humberto Canale Estate 125cl cl cl ml Carafe Bottle % Vol. This 100% Pinot Noir has an attractive garnet colour. There are notes of spice and candied fruit with nuances of fresh red berries such as strawberries and cherries. Its ageing in oak is emphasised with a smoky vanilla aroma.

A toasted vanilla flavour adds to its complexity. Lorca Fantasia Chardonnay 13.5% Vol A great Chardonnay with a deep green colour and maximum fruit, with notes of white flowers, citrus and tropical fruits. El Guardado Chic Pinot Gris 13.5% Vol A Pinot Gris wine with a yellow crystalline colour with greenish and golden hints and an intense aroma of fruits and citrus.

Laborum Torrontes Late Harvest 50cl % Vol A beautiful dessert wine, full and fruity, with aromas of peach, raisins and honey; toast and vanilla notes are complemented by a gentle acidity. Argentinian Wine A decade or so ago you would have been hard pressed to find anyone in Britain who had tried wine from Argentina, or even knew that they made wine there. In fact, Argentina produces more wine than any other country in South America, and is the fifth largest wine producer in the world. But Argentina doesn t only produce a high volume of wine: the quality and diversity, as you might expect in as large a country with such a varied climate, is unrivalled not something that can always be said about other so-called New World wine producers. Argentina s most popular red grape variety, and the one that perhaps defines the country s wine, is the dark, intense yet fruity Malbec, but you ll also find Pinot Noir, Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon, and blends that include Syrah, Merlot and Tempranillo. White grape varieties include Viognier, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and the indigenous Argentinian Torrentes. The biggest and most significant wine-producing region is in the province of Mendoza, where around two-thirds of all Argentinian wine is produced, and where the relatively benign and stable temperatures are ideal for growing grapes and making wine. The main wine-producing areas of Mendoza are Maipu and Lujan, where vineyards at between 2500 and 3500 feet produce some of the country s finest single-growth old Malbecs, while the even higher Valle de Uco produces some excellent white wines, including some the country s most impressive Chardonnays. There are two other main wine-growing regions besides Mendoza. Way further south, the more extreme climate of the Patagonia region provides a home to both white wines and also reds, made from Malbec and Pinot Noir grapes, which are slightly lighter than their counterparts in the rest of the country, while in the extreme north of the country, the high, hot region of Salta has some of the country s oldest vineyards, planted by Spanish missionaries in the 16th century. These grow Malbec and Tannat grapes that produce hefty, full-bodied red wines with high alcohol levels.
