6 What is a TSG? A product resulting from a traditional mode of production, processing or composition Or Produced from raw materials or ingredients that are those traditionally used "Traditional" = at least 30 years area It is not linked to any geographical (May be produced anywhere in the world but the registered name (TSG) may be used only if the recipe complies with the approved product specification.) 6

9 Criteria PDO Product s qualities or characteristics are essentially or exclusively due to the geographical environment with its natural and human factors Raw materials and all stages of production take place in the geographical area 9

10 Criteria PGI Product possesses specific quality, characteristics or reputation attributable to its geographical origin One stage of production process must take place in the region 10

19 How to register a GI at EU level by direct application? Initiative must come from a producer group First check at MS/country of origin level incl. national opposition (MS) Then check at EU level incl. world-wide opposition Registration at EU level 19
