3 L E T T E R F R O M T H E P R E S I D E N T DEAR GUEST Welcome to the UK wine trade's biggest celebration of Sherry wines, the Great Sherry Tasting. It is testament to the importance of this market that we welcome so many producers to the event today. Indeed, the UK Sherry business is enjoying a period of renewed growth, and we are delighted to report it continues to attract a new audience of drinkers to the category. With exports of dry premium Sherry increasing 30% last year, we believe we are well placed to welcome a new era for Sherry. Indeed, this autumn marks the launch of a new initiative by the Sherry producers to reach out to the wider UK consumer via an exciting new promotion. As we embark on this major new consumer campaign, we hope your business will benefit from the increased exposure that will be achieved. Turning our attention to today, it is a great pleasure to introduce you to all the activity we have planned throughout the day. New for this year is a series of informal guided wine walks hosted by one of our many Certified Sherry Educators. Please ask at reception for details of how you can make use of this excellent initiative. And, as popular as ever, there are two masterclasses. It is my pleasure to welcome two new hosts, both of whom I am sure are well known to you and who are renowned for being great advocates of Sherry: Joe Fattorini and Jamie Goode. Joe will be exploring the diversity of the palomino grape, and explaining how the ageing process of Sherry through the solera system gives this one grape variety so many facets of flavours. The second masterclass, hosted by Jamie, will be focussing on the landscapes of Jerez - Marco de Jerez - as well as the impact of 'flor' on Sherry wines. From 1pm there will be a Sherry Cocktail demonstration bar in the main room, highlighting the diversity of Sherry in a myriad of cocktails, and featuring some classic recipes, as well as some more contemporary creations too. And finally, towards the end of today, at 4.30pm, we will be announcing the five 2018 finalists for the Copa Jerez - the bi-annual Sherry and gastronomy competition which attracts entries from some of the UK's most prestigious restaurants. The UK winner, decided in October, will compete in Jerez next year for the International crown. We hope you all enjoy what today has to offer. Join this masterclass to get under the skin of Palomino and discover there is more to this variety than being just a young, light base wine as it evolves through the solera. Guests will be presented with a range of eight wines from Manzanilla to Oloroso 1.00 PM SHERRY COCKTAIL DEMONSTRATION BAR Located in the main tasting gallery until 5.00pm Sherry s versatility in cocktails will be displayed with a selection of classic and new Sherry cocktails all recipes can be found on PM MASTERCLASS 2: MARCO DE JEREZ Hosted by Jamie Goode It is true that the secret to Sherry lies in its ageing and notably the influence of 'flor' but it is equally true that great wines begin life in the vineyard. In this masterclass the soil, landscape and unique vineyards will be plotted in detail to give the audience an insight into the provenance of Jerez's wines - accompanied with a selection of wines that illustrate the importance of location as well as 'flor' PM COPA JEREZ UK FINALISTS PRESENTATION In the main tasting gallery, the five finalists for the 2018 Copa Jerez UK compeititon will be announced.
