10 THE BENEFITS OF EDIBLE The European Union and more specifically in our country the Ministry of Health approved the use of gold and silver in food consumption, respectively, with the E-175 and E-174. Both agencies regulate its use, which is subject to obtaining the relevant certificates and our brand has Viña Fragrance D'or. Experts agree that gold intake provides several benefits for the body, such as the elimination of toxins and slowing skin aging. Although these benefits are not yet sufficiently documented, it is known that gold is safe and remains unchanged from biological fluids such as blood, i.e.; that it is bio-compatible. It has a high degree of resistance to colonization of bacteria, so gold is also used for implants where there is a high risk of infection, such as the inner ear, or mouth region. The American chemist John Fackler investigates the properties of this small reactive metal which is unaffected by water, heat or air. To Fackler, its positive effect may be because the gold prevents the formation of peroxynitrate, which "could be the biggest enemy in the deterioration of cells and bones suffered by patients with rheumatoid arthritis," since gold by blocking the formation of compound, act as antioxidant preventing accumulation of free radicals.
