Please join us Tuesday, April 25 th at 7:00 PM for the Marshall Terrace Annual Meeting at RiverVillage Sun Room, 2919 Randolph St. NE. The meeting will provide an opportunity for residents to review our annual report, provide input about new neighborhood goals, and enjoy free refreshments with their neighbors. We will also be nominating and electing Marshall Terrace board members for the coming year. Board members meet monthly to promote the betterment of the neighborhood. If you re interested in becoming a board member, we encourage you to attend this meeting and nominate yourself. 2 Page 2 APRIL 2017 St. Anthony Parkway Bridge Plaza Planned As part of the St. Anthony Parkway Bridge project, developers are taking important steps to help mitigate the loss of the old bridge and its contribution to the Grand Rounds and BNSF Rail Corridor. One exciting step is the planned creation of a "Historic Interpretive Plaza". This will be an overlook on the southwest corner of the crossing with an information kiosk about the bridge. Other plans as stipulated in the Memorandum of Agreement include: Recordation of the Bridge: professional documentation according to Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) standards, including photos and laser scan. Scholarly Article: a scholarly article has been prepared for publication by a qualified historian. Design Review: this will follow the Secretary of Interior Standards to minimize additional adverse effects to the Railroad districts and Grand Rounds. Additional information and regular updates about the progress of the bridge can be found on the St. Anthony Parkway Bridge website at Spring Street Sweeping Begins April 11 th With spring approaching, Public Works crews are gearing up to start the City s comprehensive street sweeping to clear away the grime from winter. The City has scheduled Tuesday, April 11 th, for the first day of sweeping. Drivers parking at home or around the city should watch for temporary No Parking signs to avoid a ticket and tow. From April 11 th - May 5 th, sweeping crews will take care of nearly 1,000 miles of city streets. Temporary No Parking signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance. Make sure to follow the parking rules or you may have your car ticketed and towed to the Minneapolis Impound Lot. Parking will be banned 7 AM.-4:30 PM on the day a street is swept. The No Parking signs will be removed as soon as possible after a street has been completely swept to allow parking again. Remember not to park along these streets until these temporary No Parking signs are removed. Even though the citywide comprehensive street sweeping program has not yet begun, crews have already started sweeping some commercial corridors at night as weather permits. Interactive web tool You can use a tool on the City s website to find out when the sweeping crews are coming through your neighborhood. By Friday, April 7 th, you can go to and click on street sweeping schedule lookup to find out which week your street is scheduled to be swept.

3 APRIL 2017 Page 3 SAVE THE DATE: Art-A-Whirl, May 19 th -21 st Presented by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), Art-A-Whirl is an open studio tour in Northeast Minneapolis. It s a great opportunity to tour private artist studios and galleries, connect with the artists, and purchase original artwork. Art-A-Whirl is the largest open studio tour in the country. Art-A-Whirl takes place annually throughout Northeast Minneapolis during the third weekend of May; it s free and open to the public. More information at Dates and Hours: Friday, May 19 th : 5:00-10:00PM Saturday, May 20 th : Noon-8:00PM Sunday, May 21 st : Noon-5:00PM Household & Outside Maintenance for Seniors Senior Community Services HOME (Household and Outside Maintenance for Elderly) mobilizes open-hearted people to bring seniors affordable home maintenance and chore services delivered by trusted professionals and community volunteers. The goal of the HOME program is to provide reasonably priced services to help seniors continue to live independently in their own homes. Their network of reliable workers and volunteers provide indoor and outdoor chore services to residents ages 60 and older in Hennepin County. The HOME program offers help with housekeeping (dusting, sweeping/mopping, laundry, grocery shopping); household tasks (changing light bulbs, installing grab bars, minor plumbing, changing furnace filters); outdoor work (shoveling, lawn mowing, seasonal yard work, window-washing); and painting (exterior and interior). What does it cost? HOME is able to offer services based on a sliding fee scale. This means seniors contribute to the cost of the service based on their monthly income and ability to pay. HOME also accepts some insurance payments as well as the Elderly Waiver and the Alternative Care Grant. How do I get started? For program details, please contact them at or HOME@seniorcommunity.org.

4 Page 4 APRIL 2017 East Side Neighborhood Services Annual Wine Tasting The 21 st Annual East Side Wine Tasting is the perfect way to celebrate the East Side Neighborhood Services (ESNS) Centennial. On Thursday, May 11 th from 5-8PM, ESNS will host its annual East Side Wine Tasting at Nicollet Island Pavilion. Tickets and proceeds benefit the many programs of East Side Neighborhood Services. An Array of Fine Wines River Liquor Store and Surdyk's will provide a variety of wines for the East Side Wine Tasting from many regions including: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Zinfandel, Chianti, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, Riesling, Syrah, Sangiovese and many more. A selection of micro brews, spirits and alcohol-free options are also available for sampling. Taste wines you've never tried, enjoy some of your favorites, and have your questions answered by the experts. Famous East Side Cuisine Minneapolis is home to a variety of exciting ethnic and classic American restaurants, cafes, coffee houses and caterers.
