2 UK summary: off trade Overview - Off trade Sales in the off trade experienced modest growth again this period, up over the year, whilst summer sales were also up just over the quarter. Growth was driven predominantely by the persistent rise in sparkling wine, as well as a turnaround for Champagne and sustained growth in beer. Cider sales were down this quarter, despite driving some growth last quarter. RTDs saw a small reversal of fortune up over the last 12 weeks, the first sign of positive growth in this category since 211. Overall growth in value sales in many categories despite falling volumes indicates the premiumisation trend (consumers moving towards higher-priced premium products) is likely to continue. There were mixed fortunes for the spirits categories this period with overall spirit sales down over the year. Whilst some sub-categories enjoyed strong growth, the overall picture saw little or negative impact on annual sales in most categories and slightly stronger performances over the quarter. Imported whiskey continues to perform well ( MAT) but on-going volume declines in blended and malt scotch caused overall whisky sales to fall. has been the spirit of choice this summer with quarterly sales up +, more than any other major category. This has been driven by increased sales of spiced/flavoured rum, up an impressive over the last 12 weeks, with strong growth in the smaller golden rum category as well. Overall it was another disheartening quarter for the wine category, although the top five red wine varietals all saw significant growth over the last 12 weeks with Shiraz and Tempranillo in double digits. The annual picture was more disappointing, with only Shiraz in growth (). White wine did not perform as well over the summer period as expected, with four out of five varietals in decline over the year. Sauvignon Blanc was the only exception, up over both the long and short term. Wines from Argentina continue to enjoy strong double digit growth, particularly in the latest 12 weeks, whilst South African wines remain in growth over the year but fall into decline over the quarter. Wines from New Zealand and Chile also experienced strong growth this quarter. Annual spirits volumes were down, although value growth remained fairly strong. Wine volume () and value () took a hit over the latest 12 weeks whilst spirits saw little or no growth. Sparkling wine continues its double digit growth over both time periods, making it a remarkable two years of strong growth for this category. Fortified wine volume and value growth continues to fall across both time periods. Champagne had a small but substantial boost this period, particularly over the last 12 weeks. RTDs saw some positive growth this period, after volume sales of sparkling wine surpassed sales of RTDs exactly a year ago. Registered number: 166 England Limited by Guarantee page 2

Although annual growth for rum has slowed over the year, it has performed extremely well this quarter, up +. Volumes sales of Tequila were down over the summer although value was up +7, indicating consumers are trading up to more premium brands. The premiumisation trend seems to be particularly obvious in the spirits categories with value growth in the majority of categories significantly higher than volume sales. LAST 12 MONTHS (to 1/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 1/7/21) 613 1, Flavoured After remaining flat for the last few years, the vodka category has had a small boost this quarter. Whilst the summer period may have contributed to growth, the premiumisation trend has helped to improve value sales in this category. The flavoured vodka category also continues to support growth in the overall category, despite small volumes. As consumers continue to seek new experiences, the diverse flavour offering and mixability of flavoured vodka has ensured it continues to see strong growth over the year, despite a small fall this quarter. The launch of new flavoured vodkas by super-premium brands in the UK means value growth is more than double volume growth. Registered number: 166 England Limited by Guarantee page 3

4 UK summary: off trade Whisk(e)y LAST 12 MONTHS (to 1/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 1/7/21) Blended Scotch Whisky Imported Whiskey Malt Scotch Whisky Blended scotch volume and value continues to decline over both time periods, a trend we have seen since Q3 last year. Imported whisky continues to be popular and has off-set falls in the broader category with double digit growth over both periods. In contrast to Q3 213, malt has seen volumes fall over the year and over the quarter. Liqueurs LAST 12 MONTHS (to 1/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 1/7/21) Cream Liqueurs Non-cream Liqueurs As with flavoured vodka, the popularity of cocktails and the consumer desire for diverse flavours and experiences means non-cream liqueurs have seen strong growth over both the year and the last 12 weeks. However, this has been offset by substantial falls in sales of cream liqueurs, particularly this quarter (3). LAST 12 MONTHS (to 1/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 1/7/21) White Flavoured/ Spiced Dark Golden Despite declines in sales of white rum, the rest of the category has performed particularly well this summer. Sales of flavoured/spiced rum are up 7 over the year and 2 over the last 12 weeks. This is the most short term growth of any category. Golden rum has also performed very well, with double digit growth over the year and over the quarter. Dark rum also had a successful summer period, with volume growth of. Italy and Germany remain in double digit decline. Spain is also down, despite being in growth a year ago. Australia remains top of the table for overall sales although growth was flat over the year, whilst wines from South Africa have experienced modest growth as prices remain low. Only wines from Argentina continue to increase sales in double digits, a trend we have been seeing for over a year. The last 12 weeks tells a slightly more positive story for some. Argentina was once again the star performer (2), but New Zealand also had an excellent quarter with volume sales up. Australia and Chile have also performed well over the quarter, with small but solid growth. Unfortunately, Spain and South Africa s fortunes have d from Q3 213, when both were in positive growth. 7 UK summary: off trade Wine (colour and varietal) The news is not much better when figures are split into colour categories, although white wines saw some value growth. Shiraz and Tempranillo both enjoyed double digit growth. Unfortunately, the annual picture was less encouraging with most varietals seeing negative volume growth. The exception being Shiraz, which saw solid growth in both time periods. White wine didn t fare as well, with only Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc outdoing last summer s sales. Pinot grigio had a disappointing quarter, down, as well as being in annual decline. Soave and Bourgogne were both in double digit decline over the year. 8 UK summary: on trade Overview - On trade Sales in the on-trade were down in the latest 12 months, while growth was flat over the quarter in spite of the summer season. The substantial growth of sparkling wine and a reversal of fortune for Champagne were not enough to offset the fall in beer, wine and spirit sales over both the long and short term. Cider had a strong quarter with sales up over the last 12 weeks, although annual sales remain flat. RTDs and fortified wines continued to experience a significant fall in sales, a pattern we have seen for some time. Spirits in particular suffered this trading period, down over the year and over the quarter. Although value growth remained strong across most categories, suggesting consumers are trading up, vodka, whiskey and liqueurs all saw volumes fall over both periods. and rum were popular in the on-trade this summer, as the only major categories to see positive growth. had the most encouraging trading period, up over the year and over the quarter. Growth in golden and dark rum boosted sales for the rum category up over both the year and the latest 12 weeks. Not to be overlooked, tequila also experienced strong double digit growth over both time periods despite small volumes, growing faster than any other category in terms of percentage growth. Spirit sales in most venue types were down this quarter, with the exception of restaurants which saw spirit sales up over the year. Despite some growth last period, wine volumes fell this quarter over both time periods. Only red wine saw any positive growth this quarter ( MAT), with increased sales of Merlot and Pinot Noir. Growth in Pinot Grigio and Semillion was not enough to halt a fall of in white wine sales. Substantial falls in the value of still wine across the board continues to be a concern, with the data showing some categories to be suffering significant declines in value despite volume growth. It has been suggested this may be a result of s in serve and stock in response to hard pressed consumers looking for better deals. This development is particularly evident when looking at sales by country of origin which shows more than half of countries in positive volume growth but only France in positive value growth. The quarterly picture is slightly different with France and New Zealand seeing strong value and volume growth. Sparkling wine continues to be in double digit growth over both time periods, for the seventh quarter in a row. Champagne sales were up over the year and a + increase compared to this quarter last year. RTD and fortified wine sales continued to decline, with little in this trend. Despite being a strong performer last period, liqueurs have had a reversal of fortune this quarter, down - 5 over the year and over the latest 12 weeks. had a much more positive trading period, up over the year and over the quarter. also saw steady growth, driven by the smaller golden and dark rum categories. Tequila was the best performing spirits category in terms of percentage growth, with a particularly strong performance in the last 12 weeks. LAST 12 MONTHS (to 12/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 12/7/21) 13 1, Flavoured Sales of vodka continue to fall, with a particularly poor quarterly performance when compared to Q3 last year. The premiumisation trend has supported annual value sales, despite falls in volume, but even this could not sustain the loss of volume sales over the latest 12 weeks. In contrast to the off-trade, flavoured vodkas have also performed badly this quarter with volumes down 5 over the latest 12 weeks, although this is from a much lower base. Increases in other categories, namely gin and rum, would suggest some consumers are choosing other spirits for their summer drinks. Registered number: 166 England Limited by Guarantee page

10 UK summary: on trade Whisk(e)y LAST 12 MONTHS (to 12/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 12/7/21) Blended Scotch Whisky Imported Whiskey Malt Scotch Whisky In spite of growth in imported whiskey and malt, consistently poor performance by blended scotch continues to bring the whole category into decline. Although imported whisky continues to see some positive growth, its recent surge in popularity seems to be waning as it falls into significant volume decline over the latest 12 weeks. Compare this with Q3 213 when imported whiskey saw+ growth in volume and a growth in value. Liqueurs LAST 12 MONTHS (to 12/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 12/7/21) Non-cream Liqueurs Cream Liqueurs With the popularity of cocktails and new and exciting serves we would have expected to see liqueurs increase over the summer months. However, both cream and non-cream liqueurs were down in both volume and value, particularly over the latest 12 weeks. LAST 12 MONTHS (to 1/7/21) LAST 12 WEEKS (to 1/7/21) White Golden Dark had a positive trading period. White rum had a substantial fall in sales but overall sales figures were up thanks to a surge in the popularity of golden rum, over the year and in the latest 12 weeks. Dark rum also played a part in the positive growth with sales up over the quarter. Registered number: 166 England Limited by Guarantee page 1

The latest 12 weeks reveals a particularly disheartening picture, with a decline in volumes in all venues. Sales in proprietary clubs and hotels were down 1, whilst sales in managed and tenant pubs were also down nearly. Independent free pubs, restaurants and social clubs fared slightly better with small volume decline and some positive value growth. The picture was slightly better over the year, with independent pubs seeing no in sales and in values. Restaurants seem to be where the majority of growth for spirits in the on-trade is concentrated at the moment, with volumes up over the year. 12 UK summary: on trade Wine (country of origin) Country of origin per 75cl LAST 12 MONTHS (to /1/21) France Italy Australia USA Chile Spain South Africa Argentina New Zealand , Germany The decline in value sales remains the biggest issue this quarter. Despite growth in volumes in over half of the top ten countries, the data shows double digit decline in value for nearly all of them. New Zealand and Argentina are particularly surprising, with substantial volume growth over the year (+ and 2 respectively) but both in double digit decline in value ( and 1). One suggestion for this development is a in sales mix by outlet type, with sales moving away from higher end venues such as hotels to other venues where prices are generally lower and wine promotions more common. Only wines from France have seen positive value and volume growth over the year. The last 12 weeks tells a more balanced story. New Zealand is the star performer this quarter with sales up. France also remains in positive growth, up. Although wine from the rest of the top ten countries is in volume decline, South Africa and Spain saw increases in value. 16 Consumer research Currently, what are your favourite... Top three wine varietals? This is the first time we have introduced questions on favourite wine varietals and spirits into our consumer research section. We are hoping to be able to track s in consumer preferences in forthcoming s. For now, as expected, Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc were the most popular white wine categories, whilst Merlot is the most popular red varietal. This matches what we have seen in the varietal sales data. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Zinfandel were also popular, with Pinot Noir and Tempranillo not far behind. Chardonnay was further down the list than expected from the sales data, indicating that although widely drunk, it may not be considered a favourite. Whilst whiskey volumes are significantly higher than gin in both the on and off trade, they are as popular as each other. Liqueurs and flavoured spirits have had varying success in the on and off trade this quarter but were also popular. Tequila was the least popular spirit category, even though it has seen a surge in sales in the on-trade and evidence of premiumisation in the off-trade. Conversely brandy has done fairly well in the rankings even though volumes have been in decline for some time. Examples of response to Other included: schnapps, sambuca and whiskey-flavoured liqueur.
