Oak aging makes chardonnay smell of vanilla, coconut, and baking spices. The buttery aroma and texture come from a winemaking method called malolactic fermentation, a process that transforms harsh malic acid (the acid in apples) into smooth lactic acid (the acid in milk). On the fence between white and red? Go orange! Orange Wines are white wines produced like reds, where the grape skins are left to macerate with the juice, extracting tannin and color. They stand up to richer foods, yet remain elegant and refreshing. 4
