We recently had our plans approved by the Town of Groton Zoning Board as well as the Planning Board. After a Site Review public hearing early in September we will be able to apply for a building permit and begin the renovations. It is anticipated that the construction time will take approximately four months. The luxury one bedroom and two bedroom apartments each have their own private entrances from the outside, along with spacious patios overlooking the Thames River. Open kitchens with granite counters compliment these carefully designed units that have been designed for the comfort and enjoyment of the tenant. Persons interested in more information regarding these units should contact Mary Stonely, Director of Fellowship Manor, at (860) ext 443. James K. 5 Point O View The News of the Fairview Family Page 5 June 21, 2010 TESTIMONIAL FROM THE STEINRICH FAMILY I am writing on behalf of the family of Dolores and Richard Steinreich. We would like to thank the entire staff of Fairview for the exceptional care that was given to our father and mother over the past 3 years. Mere words cannot express the gratitude we have for the Fairview employees from every department. Our parents were treated with sincere kindness, compassion, patience and respect. We will never forget the Fairview family. God bless you all. Sincerely, Donna Gregory Lynn Macdonald TESTIMONIAL FROM NANCY HILEMAN July 23, 2010 I am writing to express my appreciation for the excellent care given to Greg during the five months he lived at Fairview. It has been very inspiring to observe the competent, caring and cheerful staff as they help each resident and respond to their individual needs. Everything about Fairview is designed to make living there as interesting as possible. The Library, the recreation room and patio, numerous sitting rooms, the Bistro, the courtyard, the beautiful grounds and that marvelous view all add a very special quality to life there. And the range of daily activities is amazing. A contribution is enclosed in appreciation of the high quality of your staff who made Greg s final days as comfortable as possible. Sincerely, Nancy Hileman COMMUNICATIONS PLUS DONATES LIGHTS Fairview is the recipient of a new set of hazard lights compliments of Communications Plus located in Norwich, Connecticut. Maintenance employee David Jones, seated in the truck, suggested that Fairview purchase hazard lights for safety reasons to use when plowing snow. When Communications Plus learned of our need they stepped forward and made the donation. Fairview is very grateful for this gift. VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS Fairview held a special dinner for all of its volunteers on June 17. One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of the Presidential Volunteer Service Awards. Two volunteers achieved this distinction. Pictured with their citations are Tiffany and Tim Stanley. Tiffany logged 417 volunteer hours and received the gold award. Tim had 570 hours and earned the prestigious Presidents award. He received a letter from the President and a gold pin. The hours were accumulated over the past year. Overall there are over 170 individuals who volunteer at Fairview.

6 Point O View The News of the Fairview Family Page 6 STONINGTON LODGE #26 PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS Four $1,000 scholarships were presented to students from Stonington, Fitch and Ella T. Grasso Technical High Schools at the lodge s annual roll call dinner on June 9. The roll call dinner accounts for all m e m - bers of t h e l o d g e including deceased m e m - b e r s. Service awards are also p r e - sented. The schools mentioned above are all located in southeastern Connecticut. The lodge has been providing these awards for the past several years. They are based on merit and financial need. There were twenty-three applications this year. Recipients of the scholarships were: (L-R) Kent Beebe and Skylar Bareford (Stonington High), and Victoria Herdman (Grasso Tech). Unable to addend the presentation was Veronica Bacong from Fitch High. FAIRVIEW RESIDENT CELEBRATES MILESTONE BIRTHDAY On July 30 a very special birthday party was held in the first floor dining room at F a i r v i e w. Matilda Logan became the oldest resident at Fairview when she celebrated her 103 rd. birthday. Pictured with Matilda are: (L-R) Sarah Stanley, volunteer coordinator, Katherine Muller, Fairview resident, Renita Iturrino, recreation staff, Tomi Stanley, director of recreation, Matilda, Basil Roosli, recreation staff, and Maureen Wesche, Fairview resident. WELCOME REBEKAH LODGE CONTINUES GIVING TO FAIRVIEW IN A BIG WAY The Welcome Rebekah Lodge #47 recently made a very significant $6, donation to Fairview. This gift was used to purchase 10 O x y g e n Concentrators. Fairview previously had been renting these tanks at a substantial monthly cost. Pictured demonstrating the new Concentrators are Cindy Mantle, Unit Secretary, and Deb Morgan RN, Director of Nursing. The Welcome Lodge has been a tremendous supporter of Fairview over the past several years. DIME BANK MAKES GENEROUS DONATION The Dime Bank Foundation awarded Fairview a $1,000 grant in May. This grant will be used to help further the implementation of the electronic medical records system. Dime Bank established their foundation in 1998 enabling support for local charities and to give back to the communities it serves. Fairview has been very fortunate to receive not only this grant but similar awards over the past several years. Fairview was one of only nineteen organizations that received funding from this grant cycle. Pictured presenting the award to David Brown, Director of Development at Fairview, is Nancy Potter, Branch Manager at the New London Dime Bank office.

They visit on the 1 st and 3 rd. Sunday of each month. Between 15 and 20 Fairview residents take part in this service. Reverend Bob Tynan leads the group in prayer. Mr. & Mrs. Elden Clemons along with their daughters provide spiritual singing. The residents who attend enjoy this service and look forward to their visits. The Pastor of the congregation is Jesse Smith. Pastor Smith also leads special memorial services throughout the year at Fairview. The Culture Change Committee meets regularly to keep the process moving. Staff has been very cooperative helping to implement this new way of thinking. Two employees were recently presented Culture Change pins for their efforts - Deb Morgan (L), Director of Nursing, and Sue Thomson, Social Services Coordinator. Both go above and beyond their normal responsibilities to enhance the lives of our residents. We commend them and all of our staff for their continued diligence in making culture change an everyday priority. CAMP CONNECTICUT RECEIVES PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT Several members of the Stonington and Stephen Terry lodges spent a considerable amount of time and energy transferring playground items from Fairview s now closed Child Development Center to the camp. The camp is owned by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Connecticut and is located in the towns of Hebron and Colchester, Connecticut. An annual picnic was held on August 7 for all Odd Fellows and Rebekah members and their families. Thirty-five members attended with several of the children taking advantage of the newly acquired and installed playground equipment. The camp is open to all members of the Connecticut Odd Fellows organization. The camp was established in 1967 and has 50 campsites. The camp does rent out space for outside groups. For more information regarding the camp please contact Rich Trudelle, camp vice president, at

TESTIMONIAL TO THE NURSES & STAFF AT FAIRVIEW August 9, 2010 Thank you for caring for Alma. Caring meant so much more than merely seeing to her needs. In my Mom s case caring meant giving and loving. I never doubted that love was a missing ingredient as you cared for her. I am so glad that we could bring her home to Fairview to spend her final hours. Thank you all! Ken & Laurie Hinrichs.
