Gevrey-Chambertin is the northern-most of the major Burgundy communes. It was the first to rename itself by adding the suffix of its most famous vineyard, becoming Gevrey-Chambertin in 1847.

1 Gevrey-Chambertin is the northern-most of the major Burgundy communes. It was the first to rename itself by adding the suffix of its most famous vineyard, becoming Gevrey-Chambertin in Vineyards have been in the area for around 2000 years with the remains of a Roman vineyard, and settlement known as Gibriacois, recently discovered. The wines of Gevrey-Chambertin are full of character. They are typically rich with a sense of power and earthy notes. Bracket 1: Villages Wines 1a. Domaine Georges Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin Sold Out In Stock $ Pre Arrival $83.50 The parcels are located at the south entrance of Gevrey Chambertin, on a south exposed hillslopes. The soil is mainly composed of gravels, on a light hearth layer, that get warm easily. It gives fruity wines. Domaine Lignier owns 1.5 hectares.

2 1b. Domaine Olivier Guyot Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs In Stock $ bottles left From 60 year old vines grown high on the slope. Red-black fruits with earthy, mineral notes. Fresh and lively on the palate, the limestone soil no doubt contributing to the vibrancy of the wine. The extract level is excellent creating a medium weight Gevrey with balance and an impressive long finish. 1c. Domaine Antonin Guyon Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice In Stock $ bottles left john Gilman: I have been a fan of the domaine s fine bottling of La Justice for several years now and the 2010 is a really lovely example of this superb lieu à dit, which I find to be one of Gevrey s most elegant village wine terroirs. The 2010 from Domaine Guyon was one of the latest to finish up its malo here and still showed just a touch of gas, but is clearly going to be excellent, as it offers up a very pure and classy nose of red and black cherries, bitter chocolate, black minerality, a touch of grilled meat, woodsmoke and a topnote of fresh herbs. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a sappy core, suave tannins and a very long, focused and tangy finish. High class villages here! 91+ Points 1d. Domaine Gilbert and Christine Felettig Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice In Stock $ bottles left La Justice is interesting as it lies on the wrong side of the road. But the soil is high in limestone with topped with sand providing excellent drainage. Felettig s holding is 0.39ha. Red, red-black fruits. Not a huge tannic Gevrey, La Justice is more supple and elegant. Medium body with nice depth. Great value for a Gevrey lieu-dit. Bracket 2: Premier Crus 2a. Pierre Bouree Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cazetiers In Stock $ bottles left John Gilman: The 2010 Cazetiers was a touch reduced and in need of a racking, but its quality was pretty evident on both the nose and palate. Underneath the touch of reduction is a complex and transparent bouquet of cherries, plums, grilled meat, fine soil tones, coffee, mustard seed and woodsmoke. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, long and shows off lovely soil inflection, with moderate, ripe tannins, tangy acids and excellent length and grip on the focused finish. This will be excellent Points 2b. Domaine Olivier Guyot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux In Stock $ bottles left One of the highest terroirs in Gevrey, Les Champeaux vines face due south, between Brochin and Gevrey. Planted in 1901, these are the oldest vines on the estate. This is a serious Premier Cru! Very intense nose with dark fruit and much more iron and earth than the Chambolle wines. Explosive

3 on the palate. Lots of extract from the seriously old vines coupled with firm, but fine tannins and lashing of refreshing acidity. Benchmark Premier Cru Gevrey with power and typicity. 2c. Domaine Jean-Michel Guillon Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru La Petite Chapelle In Stock $ bottles left Burghound: A very subtle application of wood does not interfere with the transparency of the cool, pure and elegant black cherry liqueur aromas. There is equally good transparency to the rich and beautifully detailed medium-bodied flavors that possess truly lovely vibrancy on the ripe, racy and ultra-pure finish. This velvet-texture beauty is worth a long look. A Sweet Spot wine Points 2d. Domaine Georges Lignier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Combottes In Stock $ bottles left also in stock $ Combottes could easily be a Grand Cru. It is bordered by Clos de la Roche to the south, Latricieres-Chambertin to the north and Mazoyeres-Chambertin to the east. There is a conspiracy theory that at the time of classification all of the owners of Combottes came from Morey-St-Denis so there was little interest in advancing the vineyard's cause. The vineyard produces terrific wine that is very similar in style to Latricieres-Chambertin. - powerful, yet silky and light-footed. If it said Grand Cru on the label you could expect to pay % more for the same quality. Tim Atkin MW: A domaine that pulled out the stops in 2010, making good to excellent wines acrossthe board. This is my pick for value, as it s just below the Grands Crus in quality. Black cherries, blackcurrants and spicy oak make this a weighty, concentrated wine that will age well in bottle Points Bracket 3: Grand Crus 3a. Alex Gambal Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru In Stock $ bottles left Alex Gambal: This is my "baby." When I found this small parcel just before harvest I could not believe the quality of the plants and the grapes they produced. Latricieres Chambertin is not a "big" wine, but Chambertin is not really either. Where Chambertin tends to dark notes and a brown or burnt sugar nose Latricieres has more small red fruits and is detailed and precise. Where they are similar is in their length that builds and then last for three to five minutes after tasting. We made 75 cases in 2/3 new oak. DH: This was one of the most delightful wines of my trip. Latricieres-Chambertin can, all too often, be a little light and lacking complexity. This cuvee, made from a small patch of old vines high on the slope, delivers that rare combination of power, style and lightness. Jasper Morris in Inside Burgundy quotes Faiveley and Rossignol-Trapet as using the French term arien to describe their Latricieres, a word that sits somewhere between airy and ethereal. This wine certainly is both intense and light on its feet, lacy in structure, with a gentle sweetness of fruit seen in the best Burgundies. The finish is very fine and long. I have written stylish and that sums up this terrific wine. It is a beautiful wine with the balance that makes it very pleasing to drink now, but with the structure to allow the wine time to develop those gorgeous nuances the vineyard is capable of.

Wine Enthusiast: This wine s concentrated tannins mingle with its raspberry, blueberry and rich plum flavors. While it is powerful and structured, it also has a fine sense of elegance, a combination that will allow this wine to age for decades. 94 Points Bracket 4: Aged Grand Crus 4a. Burghound: A surprisingly bright and expressive nose features intense underbrush and red pinot fruit that possesses subtle spice and earth nuances that can also be found on the rich and attractively textured medium full flavors blessed with good mid-palate extract that largely buffers the moderately firm tannins Points 4b.
