2 Alentejo, a unique region in Portugal, known for its tranquillity where life is slow paced and a balm after the hustle and bustle of the city. Alentejo is a way of life. It is mostly an agricultural region where the main crops are cereals, olive oil and wine. Wine making goes back to immemorial times and it is believed that some 2000 years BC it was already a regular production. This programme takes us to some of the main cellars of the region, the beautiful city of Évora with its rich history and welcoming accommodation you will never want to leave. Get involved in the calmness of this region, celebrate the culture with people that like to host, get to know the centuries old history, savour some of the best food you have ever had and taste wines of a singular quality. 3 Day 1 - Welcome to Alentejo Reception at the airport, transfer to the charming wine hotel L AND Vineyards in Montemor-o-Novo and check-in. In the afternoon visit to the winery and have a wine tasting. Dinner in the hotel to try some wonderful flavours of this region. Accommodation: L AND Vineyards L AND Vineyards Wine Day 2 - Évora Breakfast at the hotel. Trip to visit the Adega da Cartuxa (Cartuxa Winery) one of the main wine producers in Portugal to visit the cellars and have a wine tasting. Return to Évora the walled main city of Alentejo with centuries of history and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Check-in at the hotel and free afternoon to explore the city centre. 4 Day 3 - Esporão / Reguengos de Monsaraz Trip to Herdade do Esporão (Esporão Estate), a large and historical estate in central Alentejo where the main productions are wine and olive oil. There will be a visit of the vineyards and wine tasting., followed by lunch at the estate s restaurant to try some typical foods of the region. After lunch there will be a visit of the historical town of Reguengos de Monsaraz with its castle and medieval fortification. Transfer back to Évora. Esporão Estate Reguengos de Monsaraz Day 4 - Elvas / Monforte Departure to the northern region of Alentejo to visit Elvas, a walled town first conquered by the Portuguese in the 12th century. After visiting the Adega Vila Santa (Vila Santa Winery) owned by the great producer João Portugal Ramos there will be a wine tasting followed by a wonderful lunch. Transfer to the hotel. 5 Day 5 - Arraiolos / Lisbon Trip to Arraiolos, a cosy town in Alentejo, famous in Portugal for its traditional tapestry where one can learn about this art and visit the castle. Lunch will be served in a traditional and local restaurant to allow for a further taste of Alentejo s flavours. After lunch visit to the Monte da Ravasqueira (winery) for a taste of their amazing wines and visit the estate that also boasts a horse-drawn carriage museum. Transfer to Lisbon and rest of the day free. Accommodation: hotel 4* or similar Arraiolos Monte da Ravasqueira Winery Day 6 - Lisbon Free morning to explore more of Lisbon.
