With the judicious blending of different parcels from the same appellation, Roland Masse can create the 46 cuvées, the 46 wines that will be auctioned on November 18th,.

Since its foundation, the Hospital has been funded by legacies and gifts in the form of money, land, and naturally in Burgundy vineyards. This custom still continues today. The Hospices de Beaune estate now extends over 60 hectares in numerous famous appellations : Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Corton, Meursault, Savigny Roland Masse, the estate manager, vinifies each plot of land («parcelle») to express the quintessence of its terroir. With the judicious blending of different parcels from the same appellation, Roland Masse can create the 46 cuvées, the 46 wines that will be auctioned on November 18th,. Their exact make up can vary slightly from year to year depending on various factors (conditions over the year, yields, etc). In, 46 wines (33 reds and 13 whites) will be auctioned to the benefit of the Hospices. Each wine is different with its distinctive personality, history and taste. Since 1859, the Hospices de Beaune wines are auctionned in November : 46 different cuvées (wines), representing around 750 barrels of 228 litres, called pièces.

5 Since 1859, the Hospices de Beaune wines are auctionned in November : 46 different cuvées (wines), representing around 750 barrels of 228 litres, called pièces. A barrel means 288 bottles of 75cl after ageing in our cellars. Money raised during this auction (around 5 Million) is a significant contribution to the Hospital s budget. THE AUCTION : 46 CUVÉES (WINES) FROM THE VINTAGE AUCTIONNED ON NOV. 18th, The Hospices de Beaune auction is a worldrenowned event, a not-to-be-missed moment for all lovers of Burgundy wines throughout the world. Hospices wines are always sold en primeur (as futures). After the auction, the barrels we bought for you or on your behalf (around 100 barrels and 30 differents cuvées!) will be aged for 12 to 16 months in our cellars, bringing the wines to perfection thanks to our know-how, expertise and care. The vintage wines sold this year will therefore be available and shipped to our customers in spring 2014.
