page 1 Morgon, Côte du Py, Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud, 2011 Deeply coloured, mineral, ripe and exquisitely fine with great length of flavour. Product Code BJ5621 Dominant Grape Gamay Product Type Red Wine Drink Dates 2012 to 2019 Vintage 2011 Price No longer for sale Producer : Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud Jean-Marc Burgaud is a top Beaujolais grower, claimed by many to be the best producer in Morgon. Jean-Marc comes from a family of winemakers, and his own career in the industry began in 1989 after he completed a diploma in oenology. He now owns 19 hectares of vineyards in several appellations, comprising 13 hectares in Morgon where his estate is based, plus five hectares in the Beaujolas-Villages area and one hectare in Régnié. His Régnié grapes are grown on 50-year-old vines in sandy, stony soil. Wines from Régnié the youngest Beaujolais cru are often supple, round, and fruity, and Burgaud calls his own example feminine and cheerful. Harvesting is by hand, as it has been for generations, and tradition prevails in the winery too. Burgaud s aim is always to illustrate his passion for winemaking in the most important place of all: the glass. Perhaps most well-regarded are his two Morgons: the soft, refined Les Charmes and the more meatily-structured Cote du Py, both of which can benefit from time in the cellar.
page 2 Fleurie Poncié, Château de Beauregard 2011 Poncié is a well-placed vineyard that points dead south, overlooking the village. Gamay ripens well here and produces a rich style of wine. Beauregard makes one of the best and 2011 is a real charmer. 3 page 3 Morgon, Côte du Py Château Lumières, Louis Jadot, 2005 Impressive, inky, fabulously rich and full-bodied Morgon from an exceptional vintage, almost Rhône-like in its colour and depth of flavour. Lovely now and to Product Code BJ3611 Dominant Grape Gamay Product Type Red Wine Drink Dates 2009 to 2015 Style Full-bodied Closure type Cork, natural Vintage 2005 Price No longer for sale Moulin-à-Vent, La Roche, Château des Jacques, Louis Jadot, 2006 La Roche sits just beneath the windmill on a bed of granite and quartz. The wines are especially dark in colour with almost syrah-like minerality and deep complexity. The 2006 is pure magic and shows what can be achieved with the gamay grape. Product Code BJ3891 Dominant Grape Gamay Product Type Red Wine Drink Dates 2010 to 2020 Style not applicable Closure type Cork, natural Vintage 2006 Price No longer for sale Moulin-à-Vent Clos des Rochegrès, Château des Jacques, Louis Jadot 2006 Vinified in a Burgundian way with destemming, relatively long vatting with pigeage (punching down) and maturation in new oak pièces. This was firm and oaky in its youth but has now mellowed. Rich, soft, oaky but balanced Moulin-à- Vent. Product Code BJ3881 Dominant Grape Gamay Product Type Red Wine Drink Dates 2009 to 2018 Style not applicable Closure type Cork, natural Vintage 2006 Price No longer for sale Producer : Maison Louis Jadot - See next page.
page 4 Producer : Maison Louis Jadot Louis Jadot are, with Joseph Drouhin, Faiveley and Bouchard Père et Fils, the leading négociants of Burgundy. They also have substantial vineyard holdings, split between Louis Jadot itself, Les Héritiers de Louis Jadot and Domaine André Gagey, and long-term rental agreements, such as that with the Duc de Magenta, adding up to about 60ha in the Côte d Or. Further holdings are in Beaujolais, Château des Jacques, and Pouilly-Fuissé, where they own Domaine Ferret. Louis Jadot is considered by many to have one of the finest winemaking reputations in Burgundy. For red wines, temperature control is eschewed, allowing fermentation to start of its own accord, and letting the temperature during the process rise without intervention (in most cellars, this is generally capped at about 32?C). Even so, the length of maceration is still long, often taking three weeks or more. The result is a rich and powerful style of red Burgundy, even in lighter appellations, which demands and repays keeping. When creating its white wines, the company frequently part-blocks the malolactic fermentation to retain higher acidity. In less favourable years, contrary to normal practice, a little more new oak is used. However, the main aim for both reds and whites is to use as little oak as possible in order to let the terroir and the vintage do the talking. Jacques Lardière became the company s winemaker in 1970, and only retired in An able and charismatic winemaker, he produced wines of high quality with a distinct personality, and valued the less expensive village wines as highly as he did the grands crus. Since 2010, he has been assisted by Frédéric Barnier, who was named as his replacement upon Jacques retirement, though Jacques remains at the company in an advisory role. Maison Louis Jadot s headquarters are located in the heart of Beaune. The most beautiful of its three cellars, used to store its older wines and for hosting special events, is situated in the Couvent des Jacobins, which dates back to 1477.
page 5 Moulin-à-Vent Clos du Grand Carquelin, Château des Jacques, Louis Jadot 2006 Made in a Burgundian way, with punching down and new oak, this is rich and structured for Beaujolais. Moulin-à- Vent is the biggest and most powerful Beaujolais cru, and has the structure to be made in this way. Over time the new oak and fruit have married but this is still quite oaky. Big and opulent with silky tannins. Product Code BJ3871 Dominant Grape Gamay Product Type Red Wine Drink Dates 2009 to 2016 Vintage 2006 Price No longer for sale Producer : Maison Louis Jadot - See next page.

page 8 Producer : Château des Jacques Château des Jacques' motto is 'a great wine is a living wine', and indeed this property's wines are some of the most long-lived in the entire Beaujolais region. When Louis Jadot purchased the château in 1996, both cellars and vineyard were in sorry state and certainly in need of capital to bring them up to standard. The process has been long in the making and quite rightly has been much more evident in the vineyard. At first, Château des Jacques was managed by Frédéric Burrier, who eventually left to return to his family estate at Beauregard in Fuissé. His place was then taken an old soldier, Guillaume de Castelnau, descendant of the victors of the first battle of the Marne. The aim was to restore this estate to former glories and in this they have been entirely successful. Part of the vineyard has been replanted and pruning has been shortened in order to minimise yields. Ploughing was brought back to give life to the soils and chemical fertilisers, insecticides and herbicides have been replaced by more natural solutions. The result has seen a dramatic rise in quality. Though Château des Jacques produces wine from several Beaujolais appellations, it is Moulin-à-Vent which has captured the headlines. The estate is a large landowner here with scattered plots across the appellation. Moulin-à- Vent's geology is complex as though the soil is mostly granite, in fact there are variations with more clay in some, more stones and, uniquely in Beaujolais, greater or lesser amounts of manganese. Moreover, exposition is different with some slopes facing fully south, others more south-east and at altitudes that may vary by some 1000 feet. From the start, the plan for Jadot was to make single-vineyard wines, at least in good vintages and this they have done with Rochegrès at its richest and La Roche maybe at its finest. Jadot also produce a generic blend of the estate's Moulin-à-Vent. Moulin-à-Vent is the weightiest in style of Beaujolais and the closest in style to Burgundy, because it's made in the same way as a pinot noir from a top vineyard site on the Côte d'or, with a day fermentation followed by partial ageing in French oak. These are wines that invariably get better with ageing. Château des Jacques is now considered among the leaders in Beaujolais and its ambition has had an effect on the rest of the region, encouraging many young growers by showing them what is possible.
