This tasting brings together almost 100 wines from 24 wineries, representing 5 regions and 15 varietals/styles. We invite you to taste and discover something new as well as the latest vintages of wines you may already be familiar with. As well as a range of different styles of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir you will find Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Viognier, Rose, Syrah, sweet wine, even Zweigelt, Montepulciano and Gruner Veltliner! 7 SUSTAINABLE NEW ZEALAND WINE New Zealand wines are vibrant, fruit driven, complex expressions of our grape growing regions and, impressively, 98% of them are certified as sustainable. Sustainable practices have been deeply embedded ever since pioneering kiwi winegrowers recognised the importance protecting the environment and their local communities, while encouraging profitability. Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand was launched in the mid-1990s. By 2016, 98% of New Zealand s vineyard producing area was certified sustainable this is unmatched by any voluntary scheme around the world. From north to south, our wine producers are committed to protecting the unique places that make our famous wines. This widespread commitment is something we re really proud of. 9 KEY VARIETIES PLANTED HECTARES, 2017 CHARDONNAY 3,203ha* The classic New Zealand Chardonnay is mouth-filling, with concentrated citrus & tropical fruit, balanced by crisp acidity & refined minerality. The warmer regions typically yield full to medium bodied wines, whilst the cooler South Island tend to produce medium to light bodied styles. RED BLENDS 1,911ha* Syrah New Zealand Syrah is crammed full of plum and savoury black pepper flavours and sometimes even a hint of violets. Cabernet Sauvignon/ Merlot blends These blends are notable for their purity of fruit expression and are known for being rich and well structured, showing characters of plum, blackcurrant and chocolate. AROMATICS 3,433ha* Riesling - The South Island s bright days, cool nights and long, dry autumns create the perfect climate for Riesling. Style ranges from bone dry to lushly sweet. Pinot Gris - New Zealand Pinot Gris has notes of apple, pear, honeysuckle, spice and bread. Gewürztraminer - Gewürztraminer from NZ is extremely fragrant, with rose petals, lychee, cinnamon and ginger characters. PINOT NOIR 5,653ha* New Zealand Pinot Noir shows fine tannins and elegance with the added excitement of vibrant, intense fruit and secondary herbal, spice and game characters. The huge diversity in climates and soils in New Zealand enables a wide range of styles. SAUVIGNON BLANC 22,085ha* The explosive flavours of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc have dazzled wine critics throughout the world, setting the international benchmark for the style.
